I'm going to be making covered composition notebooks with a group of about 20 ladies, and due to budget restraints we can't use sticky strip/red liner tape. What other types of adhesive have you used? And how have they held up? I'm hesitant to use plain old glue sticks as I'm concerned the paper will start peeling away on these after a few months.
(BTW, we're making "Blessings" journals with our MOPS group!)
You know, I never even thought about whether or not it was archival safe! I just remembered using it when covering notepads and it holds really well and FAST! So if you do use carpet tape, be careful: Once you put it down, IT AIN'T COMING UP!
I don't think it's very expensive. I usually just get it at Walmart.
I use Mod Podge as well... the matte kind so you can't see it too much if you make a mistake. I think if you use it with a foam brush and a new piece of scrap paper for each person it's not too messy.

I bought spray adhesive to use on my comp books. To date, I haven't had trouble with glue sticks. I slather it on - like UHU the best - and spend a lot of time pressing it down. I haven't had them come apart and one is about 4 years old.

I've used 3m spray and glue stick, if I do glue stick I use my brayer to make sure the bonding is really good, and I use UHU only and have had no problems with lifting and my abuse level is pretty high! LOL
