I am helping to plan a baby shower for a very good friend of mine. It is going to be pretty simple because there will be almost 100 people coming. We don't really have a specific theme, just general baby boy stuff.
I am making nugget boxes for favors but I still need ideas for other things. I have no idea what we will do for centerpieces or for gifts to give away.
So I'm wondering what you have seen or made for baby showers that you really liked.
Have you seen the "diaper cakes"? Those are really cute and would make an adorable centerpiece! I have not made one but understand that they can be a bit time consuming. Not something you would want to wait until the night before to do!!
I no longer give gifts away or prizes. I have done 2 showers recently and used a clothes line to decorate with and hung onesies, socks, bibs, washclothes and baby toys on it as the main decoration. I also got baby toys and scattered them around as the rest of the decorations. Of course this wan't for 100 people! But both mommy's love the decorations and got to take it all with them!

Those are great ideas! We had thought about doing diaper cakes for centerpieces, it is probably our best option! The shower isn't until the end of August so I still have plenty of time to make them. I also really like the idea of using baby clothes and toys as decoration so the new mom can take them home. Thanks!!

If you are doing tables for everyone to sit at another idea that I saw was to use baby bottles as vases for flowers.
I've used the baby bottles as vases many times. I usually go buy a bunch of daisies in a neutral color and add blue or pink food coloring to the water. Plus I either lay the bottle nipple right next to the bottle for extra decor or I put a small teddy next to each bottle.
I've also made a net with tulle above the gift table and filled it with teddy bears from home. It's always gotten a lot of attention. At the last shower that I decorated I put pretty tablecloths on the food tables and then had a small break between the food and the drinks, this is where I place a super sized pink teddy bear. It looked very nice.
Something that I will be doing soon is blow up color coordinated helium ballons, stamp baby colored butterflies on cs, cut them out and attach them to the balloons. I saw this on another site and it was so simple but so pretty.
As far as gifts go, personally, I've only ever seen knick knacks being given away and then I'd rather just not get anything. Often mine go in the garbage. I think if you have favors and concentrate on making the rest of the shower beautiful and fun you'll be fine.
Here's another fantastic idea Blogs at Splitcoaststampers its not off my blog so I hope she doesn't mind I post it.
The other thing I have been thinking of is I have been seeing those cute pails at Target Dollar spot and they could be decorated to theme and either hold candles or flowers or similar. I typed centerpiece in the gallery search and got loads of ideas up!
I made a diaper cake recently for a girlfriends shower. I CASE'd susiestampalot because I thought that hers was beautiful! I did not tie each diaper individually and that saved a lot of time. I just took a really big rubber band and started to put the wrapped diapers "in" it (around an empty paper towel roll). I had to go back and re-wrap a few of the diapers after I had gotten more on it, that way they would hold their form better. Here's the diaper that I made... Also, for the shower favors I made duck sugar cookes and decorated them cute and then put them in a celephane bag with a tag that I had made on top. I was going to make little bags with chocolates in them but the guest of honor's family is not big into chocolate. I wanted to order the custom M&M's for the favors. Most people like M&M's, right? I can send you pictures of either of these ideas if you'd like. Nugget tins for 100 people! That might be too much. Maybe you could make that a prize thing so you don't have to make so many (put 6 candles in it so they're not getting chocolate twice?).
I love the idea of a clothesline! My girlfriend did that at my shower and it was adorable. I did the invitation for my girlfriend's shower and I used the Washday Wheel which would go well with a clothesline theme. Here's that invitation... You could do rubber ducks. Lots and lots of rubber ducks. Oriental trading even has themed ones, maybe use sailor ones for a baby boy? They could even be the favor if you get too bogged down to make all those nugget boxes, or you could add a small duck tag to coordinate them.
Christopher Lowell did a show once (this was a few years back) where they did tall glass vases filled with water, ducks floating on top, and denture tabs and Alka Seltzer for color and fizz. Martha Stewart has cute paper boats on her website, I keep recommending them on SCS because I think they're so darn cute!
Sometimes I wish I weren't an engineer....I'd love to plan parties!
Thanks for all of the great ideas!! I love the idea of using baby bottles as vases. My mom does a lot of gardening so that could be a pretty cheap decoration.
