I see more and more scrapbook and stamping projects done w/paint chips. My question is where do you get them?
Is there a mad rush to my local hardware store (or Home Depot)'s paint department?
Or is there a way to buy them?
Maybe Home Depot/Lowe's/Menard's should do some stamping workshops while the men learn how to fix leaky toilets, install floors and whatever else they go there to learn. I see three workshops right now - "adding color variety to your cards using paint chips", "drywall tape vs. magic mesh - which is more economical", and "the wonderful (stamping) things you can do with tiles." Or maybe we could get more men stamping!

I'm getting pretty good at "acquiring" the paint chips!
Since I live in a rural area I don't mind hitting all the paint shops when I go into the "big smoke" down island; afterall, they won't recognize me!
My sons are beginning to wonder why their bedrooms aren't painted yet though!
PS ~ QC, another batch heading your way!

Okay - nobody shoot me................. I've never felt 'right' about taking paint samples if I'm not, um, well, looking for a paint! Somebody pays for them.............. they aren't put there so people can get free craft supplies.
If it were me, I'd ask permission first or see if I could buy them!

(I don't like it when guests at a workshop use my extra supplies - but people think that just cuz 'they are there' they can use as many as they want! KWIM?)
The chips are there for folks to take, though. The hardware stores around here know to keep their racks well-stocked twice a quarter for the interior design students who are putting together finish boards! I try to pick up a few whenever I'm there if I spot a color I might be able to use for one of my design projects!
That said, I try not to take multiples of the same color or take the last one left.

Thanks for all your thoughts. I did see some for sale today at my local scrapbooking store. I can't remember if they were part of collection or not though.

I won't shoot you. I was practically run off another board for being in this minority opinion. The end consumer pays for them. They may be free to the store, but they still have to pay their employees to receive and maintain the stock. The paint company still paid to produce them.
However, you can always ask. Some store do not restock the go backs. They throw them in a bin. Those are considered trash. I would ask for them if you paint store does that. It might be a pain to go through but it is really free.
Also, if you go a lot, ask when they might change the displays. Some brands switchout colors more often than others. You might hit the jackpot. I got a whole chain of laminate chips this way. The manufacturer redid the swatches and I lucked into them all.
A friend of mine went into a hardware store that was going out of business and asked what they were going to do with them all. They said they were throwing them out. So she took the whole huge box of them. Lucky for me she has way more than she'll ever use and is kind enough to share!
