Default Anyone sell their cards? How much?

I'm going to be selling home made cards at a fair to raise money for type 1 diabetes. All the proceeds are going to charity. My question is, how much should I ask? I was thinking a dollar a card? Anyone out there have an opinion? Thanks, Nik:p

It would depend on how fancy you make your cards... if you use a lot of ribbon and embellishments, you would not be covering your expenses much less your time. I sell mine at a small home craft show for $2.50 and I consider this to be very inexpensive. While I was on holidays I saw some at Shops for $6.75 each... while I would never consider selling mine for this amount it just goes to show you how wide a range you can find. I would definately not sell mine for $1.00 each. It would not be worth my time.

I heard from someone who frequently buys cards that prices range from $3.00 to $15.00 depending on the seller, detail on the card, supplies, etc.

I agree with what everyone also has stated...it really depends on how much detail you use to figure out the best price. Don't undercharge! I used to sell my handmade cards, generally around $3-$4 a card.

I sell a lot of cards but the price definately varies on where they are sold. Anywhere from $2.00-$3.00 per card. I donate a lot of cards to different things.blessings

I mostly sell my cards for $3 each, but some fancier or larger (like a few 6x6) I've sold for $5. If you were making something very very plain and simple then I'd say less than $3.....or maybe several of the same design a little less than $3 each.

The flower shop down the road has a basket of Homemade cards by the register and they are 7 dollars. It is hard to find an average Hallmark card that is mass produced and not homemade for under 5 dollars. I don't think they should ever be under 3 dollars even if they are plain.

ETA at 7 dollars they were selling. They were beautiful too. I wish I had bought one. Sadly with the economy the flower shop has closed. For many years the cards sold.

I sell my cards at a cookie shop for $3 each. But since this is for charity, (and people can write off a portion on their taxes as a donation, I think) I would charge more. Just this weekend I donated a box of 22 cards to a local school for an auction. It sold for $150. That's just over $6 a card.

I sell mine for $5.00 directly to the person or $3.50 to a business and they sell them for $5.00. I have sold as many as 50 to several businesses in a little over a week. That was exciting but it doesn't happen that often.

I sell mine for $2.50 each. They are not to heavily embellished though (maybe some ribbon, or a couple brads).

Hi

I have 2 methods to calculate the price for my card. I do the math for both method and I take the higher of both but sometimes I only calculate with 1 method and if I am happy with the price I go with that one.

So here is the 2 method

First one:

I fist of all made a list of what it cost me for stuff that I use and calculate what it cost me in paper, embelishment and I add 5% of this amount for the use of adhesive, ink, punch use, and other uses of tools. THAN I triple this amount.

Second Method

A2 cards:
with just stamping and paper = 3$
If I do coloring with either prisma, watercolor the bases will be 6$

5x7, 5x5 card:
Normally if I do a card that big I will have something colored with either prisma, watercolor so it will be 7$

Half page card, 6x6
Usually same thing so coloring, so will be 8$

When I use special items such as hodgepodge big metal ornament or Peel Offs it may be 10$.

I should add that my cards are pretty detailed and well done as well. It is not to give me flowers but I know I am pretty good fine manipulation and hand cutting straight as I need those for my job. Also if you buy a nice card at the store they are 4.99$, 5.50 and it is just printed stuff so that is my point when someone find it is too expensive and I know if someone do not buy it someone else will so I do not discount them at all even id someone buy more than 1. I tell them it does not take me less time to make them even if you buy more than one.

This has been my experience as well. I did sell some of the more detailed pop up cards for $4.00 though. I think people like the idea of getting one free if they buy 4. Good luck, this is a great cause!

Considering what they cost off the rack at Hallmark, I wouldn't go under 3.00 each for a handmade card. If you price too low people wonder about the quality. If thery're a bit higher, they feel they are actually worth something!

I agree with everyone else that you shouldn't go below $3. I sell my cards for $3 each or a box of 10 for $25. Because you are doing this for charity though you should be able to charge $4 or $5 and people are usually willing to pay that much because they know that it is going for a good cause. Good luck.

I very seldom sell cards unless I am commissioned to do so. When I'm commissioned to design a "one-of-a-kind" card I charge anywhere from $15-$25 and yes.....people will pay that! Here is an example of a card I was commissioned to design back in 2003 and I believe I charged $20 and every item on the card was designed and created by me:

Even charging as much as $25 for an original design, in my humble opinion, is dirt cheap when you consider the amount of time involved!

I make one-of-a-kind cards but where I live no one would pay a lot.

I sell my cards in a local craft store for $2.99. The owner takes a 30% commission, so I end up getting just over $2 per card. HTH

I did a craft fair last year at Mother's Day weekend, and I charged a $1.00 a card, and with other paper craft tables in the room, I was the only one selling. I used the cardstock from WalMart as my base, used scraps, and I made nice cards. I cut everything out, then did the adhesive work while watching a movie with dh, watched the grandsons play at Kid's Depot. One table at the craft fair sold nothing, not one thing, their prices were just too high. And people would tell me to "keep the change" as they made their purchases, and I made two contacts, have called me for cards for other occasions.

I have been watching videos on Copic Markers and have learned I am very fortunate to sell my cards at $3.50 and $5.00. Wow!!! I just purchased copic markers yesterday on Ebay and of course have not received them. I have been doing watercolor.

I live in Northern California and do not have an area to go to for classes on Copic markers. In fact, I don't believe anyone sells them up here. bummer.....

I too am planning to sell a few cards at a Relay for Life event in a few weeks (donating all the proceeds). I have never done this before but was thinking of charging $2 per card or 3 for $5 -- But honestly I think the price you get for your cards also depends on where you will be selling them ... can't be too high or too low.

i sell my cards at a flower shop for $6 each. mine are well-made with good-quality papers and almost all are coloured with copic markers... so a lot of time goes into them. if i was just slapping a simple card together and mass producing them, maybe I would charge less, but probably not because I always try to design my cards well, and use the best materials... I value my cards and the time that goes into them, so when I sell them (let them go aka. peel them out of my hands) i expect to get paid for that value..

The cards we sell at my hubbys office are $3.00 each. HE keeps a basket on his desk and people are alwys coming to look for the basket. Whenever I make cards it is in multiples of 18 or 24 so I throw a few in his pile, some for the troops and some for the swim teams I sell to. So the basket on his desk always has fresh stock and we sell between $75.00 and $125.00 per week. I think this is just the right price point for us.
Blessings.
