Brett Michael's sister worked at Blockbuster here in Omaha with my older brother! We got to see them lots!!

One of the other radio stations here does 80's music a lot. The lunch hour is one of their times. They play some REALLY old stuff!

Yes, that avatar is from the Rio album. That girl is soooo 80's!

Did anyone staple their jeans at the bottom to make them tighter around the ankles! I remember one girl that did that... Not me! I did the Fold and Rollup!

I also graduated in 1987, my husband graduated in 1979 (yes I was 10 when he was going into the Navy ). We both love 80's music even though we were at different stages in our lives during that time period.

We have LOTS and LOTS of 80's CDs, watch the "I Love The 80's" show all the time and listen to the 80s station on our satellite radio.

I miss the carefree feeling of those years at times when my five kids are driving me bananas!!

Jovi! I've seen Def Leppard 2 times! They put on a great concert...but I saw them in the early 90's.

This is so much fun...remembering way back then. Now I understand why my mom always talked about Elvis, the Beatles and the clothes from the 50's and 60's!

I am also a child of the 80s - I graduated hs in '92. This thread really brings back all the memories - movies, hair bands (loved Poison too!) and new wave (Depeche Mode, and especially The Cure!). So much fun!

I also did the tapered pants - although we called it "pegging" our pants at the time. Also was into the preppy style - I loved my argyle socks.

This was from grade school, but still in the '80s... I don't think that anyone mentioned it yet (maybe someone did)... but do you remember the whole "We are the World" craze. We LOVED that song ~Maria

I still have my Hypercolor t-shirts...a pink one and a purple one. I wonder if they still work. Lands End sells these kind of shirts...I bought one for my son because they reminded me of the ones I used to wear. I had shorts too, but my mom wouldn't let me wear them because they would turn color in 'certain areas'.

Oh and the Guess jeans!! You weren't cool unless you had the $50 pair of Guess jeans. That was a lot of money for a 15 year old working for $3.35 an hour at McDonald's!!

Here's a mini version of a list on that site I posted:

You're a child of the 80's if...

You ever had a Swatch Watch.
Partying "like it's 1999" seemed SO far away!!!!!!!!!!!!!
You own any cassettes.
You were led to believe that in the year 2000 we'd all be living on the moon.
You remember and/or own any of the CareBear Glass collection from PizzaHut.
Pizza Hut was the coolest place to hang.
Poltergeist freaked you out.
You have ever pondered why Smurfette was the ONLY female smurf.

I had a friend named Tina in high school that thought she was Smurfette. Wonder what she's doing now?

OMG - these are too funny:

You can remember what Michael Jackson looked like before his nose fell off. Or even when he had those freaky eyes in "Thriller" at the end of the video.

You wore a banana clip in your hair or one of those slap on wrist bands at some point during your youth

You knew what Willis was "talkin' 'bout."
You know the profound meaning of "Wax on, Wax off."

Ha! Ha! Ha! Thank you to whomever started this thread - this is so much fun going down memory lane. Kinda like "the most embarrassing thing I did" thread but better because we all did these things!!!!!

Have a great night...

Ooohhhh....the 80's. I graduated in 1987 and I had every color of slouch socks that was on the shelves. Of course the only way to wear the slouch socks was over your jeans. If you were really hip you would wear 2 PAIRS of slouch socks. The "preppies" would wear two different colors of oxford shirts or polo shirts at the same time. I had to have my pink polo shirt and a white one----together of course. I remember sitting on the bus and a bunch of us would sing along to "Weird Al" I think his music came out our 9th grade year....."Just eat it, eat it!" That song was done to Michael Jackson's song Beat it.
And where would any of us be without Aqua Net? Nothing would hold up our back-ratted hair like a good dose of Aqua Net. Who else out there had every color of Jelly Shoes??
I think my gouchos were brown. I had SEVERAL pairs. I also sported around the ribbon barrettes. If we couldn't buy one to match our outfit my mom would break out the bag of ribbon and rick-rack and we would make our own barrettes. And does anyone else remember the banana clips??? Was this in the 80's or early 90's. It looked especially nice with our over permed hair! Good and fluffy.
I really like Prince.....Little Red Corvette, When the Doves Cry, Purple Rain.....Party like it's 1999.......Oh the good ole days!!!!!!!!!

Thanks for the trip down memory lane!!!!

I graduated from high school in 1996, but I'm most definitely a child of the 80s!!! I went to a small provate school with a strict dress code, so I was saved from most of the awful fashion of that decade!

Let's see...

Michael Jackson was still black (and cute!)
Voltron is WAY cooler than Power Rangers any day!
Saved by the Bell
Cyndi Lauper, Debbie Gibson and Paula Abdul rocked!
Black and white saddle shoes were the height of fashion in the 5th grade (begged my mom for months to get a pair)
Best "secret angel" (my school didn't do Santa) gift EVER was a mini Pound Puppy
You could find my family around the TV every Monday night at 8 for "MacGyver" and every Thursday for "The Cosby Show"
I can still sing the entire "Duck Tales" theme song!
EVERY boy in my class knew the "Halloween" theme on the piano
No one cared that jelly shoes were incredibly impractical and easy to break
The coolest kids had birthday parties at the roller skating rink
I haven't worn stirrup pants since the 10th grade, but I didn't get rid of them till three or four years ago!

I had a prairie skirt made out of chambray and a matching shirt with a round collar...small flowers (my mom sewed them for me). I had forgotten about those! On my senior highschool picture I have my collar ironed up so I would look cool...I also had on white jeans for that picture!

Default Ahhhhhhhhh the good 'ol days....

Rainbow shirts and Snowflake sweaters! I like, totally used to peg my jeans, fer sure!
Big Hair - Let's hear from the Dundalk and Glen Burnie, Md girls!
My boyfriend back then used to wear Parachute pants, Oxford shirts and Teeny tiny skinny ties. He was totally cool.
Chuck Taylor High Tops in an array of colors. I had Green and Pink. I would wear one of each color. Swatch watches. I wore about 5 or 6 at a time set on all different time zones. Sometimes I would string them together and make a headband.
Coca Cola Rugby shirts. wow - I could go on and on. I won't even get started on the music.
I graduated in 88. What a great time to be a teenager!

LOL...rainbow shirts...I think that was the 70's! I was in grade school when I had mine. I had rainbow sheets on my bed too!

I had a cheap knock off of the swatch watch...my parents wouldn't pay for a real swatch. I forget what the brand was that I wore...but it was meant to sound and look like a swatch...I had one with a pink jelly band and an aqua jelly band.

How about Esprit bags and clothes...I had a red Esprit bag that I used for my books and had a neon green sweatshirt with ESPRIT on the front.

GAS shoes...were those the 70's or 80's?

Is everyone sure that rolling your pants legs was the 80's? I still swear it was the early 90's! I remember I was old enough to go to the bars when that was popular and I wasn't old enough in the 80's! (I was a good girl and didn't sneak into bars when I was underage ! )

P.S. I got a dictionary for Christmas one year too. hehe

How about Atari games?! I was awesome (totally) at Breakout. My parents still have our Atari system and keep threatening to bring it back out! That would be sooo much fun!

I also remember having a sleepover at my house and required everyone to wear pink! I guess I was really into pink then!

Miami Vice, the great music and don't forget the whole aerobics thing with the leg warmers and matching sweat bands. I was of age and so spent alot of evenings at ladies night with the male strippers. That was really big in the 80's. Remember Chippendales?

I remember playing a game in highschool on the computer...had to do with a covered wagon and you used the arrow keys and spacebar to navigate through the game. You could shoot wild animals for food. Can't remember the name of it (Oregon Trail maybe?)

At home we had a Commadore 64, but I think we had a Texas Instruments computer first. yep...everything was in DOS...no one (except maybe Bill Gates) knew what Windows or a mouse was!

Class of 1989 here!!!

Frankie goes to Hollywood. Had an oversized t shirt with this on the front in neon colors with the belt wrapped around it with the tappered jeans with the matching 3-4 pair of neon colored socks that had to be worn all at once. Oh yeah, I was the bomb back then. Also had the MAJOR BIG hair. Blue eyeline with pink eyeshadow. I also wore my jean jacket with all the buttons/pins ALL over it of course with the matching jean purse. Don't forget about the shirts with the mile high stiff collars that just HAD to be up. And forget about even shrugging your shoulders while wearing one of those.

BON JOVI!!!!!!!!!

21 Jumpstreet with Johnny Depp. I still like Johnny Depp and we share the same birthday

I remember watching Headbangers Ball on Friday nights!!!

Man I could go on forever!!! But have to go to bed now.
