Recently, my 10 yo daughter came up to me with a sign she had made for her hang out room (long story) and it said "No Boyz Allowed". I first asked her if she knew the proper way to spell boys, which I knew she did, and then told her she could use the sign as long as I never saw her spell the word "boys" like that on anything she had to hand in for school. We had a conversation on how important spelling and grammar are today, especially in this world of abbreviated electronic communication.

Sorry for the long post, but I would not purchase this stamp set either as my cards/artwork are a reflection of me.

UPDATE! The company listened, and they are now producing the sentiment with the apostrophe. It has been added, but without the space for it. However, from the company's viewpoint this is the most efficient and cost-effective manner to correct this situation. It's not perfect, but it's something; and it says a lot -- they listened. I'm sure that future sentiments will be correct and that the term "artistic interference" will disappear. My sincerest thanks to all who responded to this thread, and a special thanks to Carole, Lauren and Mel for taking the time to contact the company. Yay!

I'm pretty sure my daughter, who is 10, would have corrected the teacher, LOL!! Even at 5 or 6, she had a particularly difficult time with the changing tables in public restrooms -- why on earth, she wondered, would they have it called "Koala Kare" or some such thing! Especially since it was being used for children who should see it spelled correctly !

And Linda, so glad the company listened!!! Manufacturers, beware the SCS grammar and spelling checkers!

Koala Bear Kare!!! Those drive me crazy because you don't spell 'care' like that and they aren't bears anyway!!! I'm with your daughter - I have been grumbling about that for years.

!!!

Your koala comment reminds me of that fabulous ad from Australia Tourism:

There's Nothing Like Australia - via Mumbrella - YouTube

Watch and listen carefully for the koala and what the ranger says

I couldn't use the sentiment either. My nice local hair place - wonderful people - but the name is "His and Her's" Ack! But I still go there. LOL But that's different, right?

I personally am WAY more forgiving of it from non-professionals, on forums, in personal letters.

But if you are making it to sell, it better be right or I won't buy it. DH and I once un-subscribed from a newsletter (back before everything was online) because it had several mistakes on every single page. Drove me nuts.

I agree with you about forums, personal letters, etc. ... sometimes people are just in a hurry. Plus, maybe an individual isn't very good at grammar, spelling, punctuation, etc., but if they are selling it then they need to make certain that it's correct.

We still don't know about some happenings in our town because when we moved here, we found the local paper to be so atrocious that we stopped getting it!

And I'm glad you did hear that on the video! Sorry I just didn't see your message until now. For anyone else, at around 39 seconds, the girl with the koala says "There's nothing like this bear" -- and the "ranger" (or whatever he might be) says softly "That's not a bear." He says it quickly, too. I love that they did that -- "bear" works for the rhyme, and at the same time they are nicely correcting the common error. I love the entire ad.

I would not purchase that item. They need to hire a proofer or copy editor.
Why sell something they know isn't right?

I admit, it would drive me crazy! Despite what my quote under my post says, I tend to take some things more seriously than I should!!! While I always need help with punctuation, words are something enjoy and certain things do make me a little nuts~ on a different forum, my signature reads: Piece you speak, peace you hold and peas you put in stew

I used to work at a hotel and when our summer drink menu had come in, I told the F&B Manager that someone should have proof read it before sending it off to the printer. He told me that HE proofed it and wanted to know what was wrong I pointed out the word "LEMON" and told him that there should be two "M's" and he snapped at me, going off on how it was because the drink was made with Bacardi Limon. I told him that if that was the case, it was STILL spelled wrong since Limon has an "i" and not an "e"! This was a (supposedly) educated man who made double my salary! I never looked at him the same again; not because he missed the error but because he was too superior to admit it and then tried to make ME look like the one who did not know.

I have to agree with you. I would not be able to use it, and I give you credit for contacting the company/manufacturing facility. Sounds like most of us agree, they definately made a BIG mistake!

Did you mean to say that he spelled it with two 'm's and you told him it shouldn't be spelled that way? Because "Lemon" is correct. Unless you're talking about the actor.

I'm glad the company fixed the error, but they should be embarrassed about the "artistic interference" excuse. Punctuation isn't subject to artistic license - it's grammar.

As a high school librarian, I love that so many people care about proper punctuation (even if my students aren't among them!) I think some people aren't sure how to use them, and so they sprinkle apostrophes in all over the place or avoid them altogether.

I would never buy a stamp with a grammatical error, and I'm so impressed that SCS members pursued the issue to make it right! Good for you!

I know you've already gotten an acceptable follow-up from the company in question, but I'll add to everyone else that I wouldn't be able to use such a stamp set.

A couple of years ago, I noticed during the build-up to a new release that a certain stamp, using a quote from actor Christopher Reeve, spelled his last name as Reeves. I emailed two members of the design team who had used that stamp, as well as emailing the company directly. Both of the DT members said they would also contact the company. Never heard a thing after that, and 2 years later they are still selling the stamp with a misspelled name.

It's bad enough to have incorrect grammar or punctuation, but to spell a name wrong...I haven't purchased a single thing from that company since, and probably never will.

I'd feel it reflected badly on me to use it too. And 'artistic interference' sounds like an excuse.

I don't buy sentiments as a rule. I print them. Now, I have another reason to do so.

Sorry, but I agree with YOU! Artistic license is not leaving out an apostrophe. Misuse of apostrophes is one of my pet peeves. There is a snowcone truck in town that has "snowcone's" on the side, and I can't stand it! But then, I'm a retired teacher, so maybe that's just me!
