Question Altered Clipboard Question

I've seen quite a few clipboards that have been painted first and then the paper added to the bottom half. I really don't want to paint my clipboard but use paper on the entire thing (2 different prints). How do you get the paper to fit around the "clip" part of the board? You really can't trace it since it's so bulky. Any help would be appreciated. I'm trying to do these for teacher's gifts and have less than a week to complete.

Thanks!
