Default Adoption card ideas

My niece just adopted an adorable little boy who is 2 1/2. They are having a little celebration party the day they sign the final papers. My mom asked me to make a card for him. Does anyone have any good suggestions for that type of card for a little boy?

Welcome baby is good, just make it a little less "baby" and a little more "kid" friendly. Also, a Welcome Home theme is good, too! Welcome to the family, Congratulations will also work.

As a mom of an adopted child, I think any new baby card is great, too, because it's almost like having a birth since the "baby" is new to the home.

Trust me anything will be most welcomed! Just use boy colos and make it fun. They will love it, I'm sure!!

I agree with GinaP's comments. There is no need to incorporate the word "adopted" in the card. Rather, you could use sentiments Gina suggested such as Welcome Home Little Boy, Welcome to the Family. Also, Forever Family cards are popular so you could say "Welcome to Your Forever Family. A cute stick figure family set (like from Stampin' Up) would be really cute!

As the Mother of a daughter who was adopted, I was thrilled to add her to our family and I can imagine how excited your family is too. How wonderful for them! I bet it's been a long road but it is so worth it! However, I am trying to make sure that my daughter doesn't grow up with the label "adopted" in front of her name or description every time she is introduced so I make a point of just saying, this is my daughter. So, while I would not have minded a card that referenced adoption, I was happy to get "the usual" welcome baby cards for my daughter. I hope this helps!

As the mom of 2 adopted children, I have to agree that a regular saying is just great. I only got one specialized "Adoption" card from an elderly aunt with both my kids and I have to admit that it was almost weird! A good old congrat's or welcome to the family etc. will really do the trick. I appreciated the fact that everyone treated the blessing of my children just like all the others who did it the old fashioned way. It is such an exciting time for your niece and family and I send all the best to them!

That's true if the card is for Him, Welcome is enough. Or even some sort of Happy Hello.
We have just been approved to adopt and this thread is an opener.

I think "Welcome" would be a good sentiment as well. My best friend adopted an 8 year old a few years back and we went the "Welcome to the family" route. At Christmas, I made them a Christmas ornament with 3 snow people on it and it said "Our First Christmas" on it.

Congrats on being a great-aunt (is that right? I can never keep that stuff straight! LOL!). A welcome card would be nice, or even a "our family just grew by two feet" and a pair of feet (stamped or a photo) might be cool card. I was adopted at 2 1/2 and will always remember that special day!

How special ... congrats to your niece and the entire family!

I agree with everyone that said a regular "welcome to the family" type sentiment is best. I am an adoptee (and reunited with both birth parents 6 years ago) and the thing I really hate is the the title that people have labeled my wonderful Mom as "adoptive mom", not just Mom. My Mom was my MOM... and your niece is the MOM to her new little boy.

My second child, Rachel, is adopted. This is my favorite poem from when we got her. (25 years ago!!)I believe its called, "My Own Child."

"I did not plant you, True. But when the season is done-When the alternate prayers for sun and for rain are counted-When the pain of weeding And the pride of watching are through-
Then I will hold you high, a shining sheaf Above the thousand Seeds grown wild.
Not by my planting, but by Heaven My harvest-My own child."

I am a birth Mom who was reunited with her son 2 years ago, and I am simply known by my Christian name to him, his wife and boys - and I always refer to his parents and Mom and Dad or your parents - thank you for affirming those choices!

I am a birth mom and just wanted to say congratulations! My son is 27 and about 5 years ago he searched for me and is now a part of our family. He has 2 "step brothers" ages 9 and 7. A true gift of unconditional love!

I have been looking for a special poem to make
a placard style inside front page to my adopted son's scrapbook.
This is what I have been waiting for.
He will be 12 next month,it's been only 6 years with us
but it sure does seem like forever!
Happy adopting to everyone out there :}

PS Everyone has a wierd elderly Aunt don't they? :}

I'm an adoptive mom, and I must commend everyone here for treating the adopted child the same way. In my family (unfortunately), I noticed a HUGE difference in the amount of cards/gifts/good wishes we received with our first daughter (bio) and our second daughter (adopted at age 3.5). It's so funny that I often forget that my second child is adopted. This is just what our family looks like--just who we are. But I sometimes remember when I see people trying to process how I have two 6-year-olds, 2 months apart in age, that are different races/ethnicities. Very funny. Just remember to be just as overwhelmingly happy for this niece in her adoption journey as you would be for a birth. I don't want to sound bitter (and I'm not), but I do remember feeling badly that my daughter was not "welcomed" to the family in the same way that my brother's twin daughters were a few months later...

My DB and SIL came home with their little girl from Russia the same day I had my DD so that day is extra special in our family. At her Welcome home party I made her a card with a tree on the front. I punched out a bunch of leaves and wrote all of our names really tiny on them. On the inside it said "Welcome to our Family Tree". I wish now that I would have put something about the tree being grown with love and now she can grow with us, but I just thought of it while writing this. Congratulations on your newest "Leaf"

Thanks for having this post. I have friends who are bringing home a 2 year old girl from Russia soon and was having trouble with card ideas. This helped - I don't have a welcome stamp but I do have a congratulations one. This is what I came up with:
