AAAAAHHHHH!

I know that there are others who have it worse. I wasn't in a huricane or tornado.... Thank you God! But it is still frustrating when your "craft space" is in the basement and you wake up to water everywhere in the basement. Mostly I lost cardstock and some of my photos. Part of me is thankful, because it could have been worse, but part of me wants to cry. What makes it worse is my car just died on Friday and I don't know how much it will cost to fix that. I know some of you can understand how I feel. I guess I just needed to vent. And maybe make someone else feel better about there life.

((((((((Hugs))))))))) I'm sorry about your wet basement. We had some water in our basement as well, but we got it pumped out before it hit my stamp area. I usually get very lazy and keep alot of my stamp stuff on the floor instead of putting it away. As soon as I saw water, I went and cleaned up my stamp area. (at least some good came out of it, my stamp area got cleaned!) I hope not to much else of yours got water damage. I know how bad that can be!

Thanks guys! I appreciate your thoughts. We are just waiting until the ground dries out. It's just frustrating watching the water keep seeping in and not being able to do anything about it.

How much water do you have? Can your fire dept pump it out for you? My DH is in the fire dept here and says you have to have about a foot of water for the pump to work. I hope you don't have that much?!!! If there isen't that much, can a wet vac do the job? I'm sorry your going through this! (((hugs)))

Oh do I know almost exactly how you feel!! I say almost because I live in CT and when we had that noreaster come through 2 weeks ago, we had water in our FINISHED basement. We had the carpet pulled up in so many places it was silly. When you walked down there the water would squish through the carpet! My crafting spot is in the back of the finished basement. Luckily I didn't loose anything but could not get to my craft room until this week. I know how you feel and send hugs your way!

I lilved with a wet basement for awhile, not fun. I know what a mess it can make to clean up. Wishing you all the best and feeling your pain. Think positive about the car, maybe hopefully it can be repaired without too much $$$. Just seems like stuff piles up on us at times but you have to know it will all work out ok.

I feel for you.. we live in a house thats flooded 3 times in two years.. The last two times we had 6 feet in the basement and the water was just below the floorboards of our first floor. We had fish swimming around in there.. Water coming in through your floor and walls is frightening to say the least. Hard to think we are lucky but we live there have been many people in our area who have flooded through their first floor and can't get back to a normal life. That last noreaster we lucked out and came as close to flood #4 as we could but were really fortunate and only had puddling in the basement. No real damage. Needless to say we don't keep much of anything in our basement that can't be moved out in a flash and certainly not my stamps. I'm not familiar with insurance in Iowa at all, but typically homeowners won't cover anythign in your basement other then your furnace and electric, atleast in most states. I feel like I shouldn't even keep my stamps in the house on the 2nd floor! I think if anything happened to the house I'd be most upset by the loss of my craft supplies then anything else!:( Anyway I know how you feel but you'll dry out. I hope everything works out with your car!

Thanks for all your encouragement. We didn't get enough to have to use buckets or call the fire dept. A few inches of water can play havock when you are not good about keeping projects and paper off the floor. So armed with a shop vac we try to keep things under control until the water decides not to come in anymore. A lot of neighbors are in the same boat. I am thankful that things are not worse. Thanks again for the hugs and prayers. It helps to have someone understand and relate.

This site is awesome. I tend to lurk more than post. But I have recommended this site more times than I can count. The product information, information and knowledge in general is beyond great.

Have a wonderful week everyone!

Hi Shelley,
I live in SW Iowa.

Sorry about your water damage!!

Our basement is a little wet most of the spring. It gets worse when we get a lot of rain. I've heard that we'll get rain most of this week. Not cool!! We haven't been able to finish our basement for this reason. Most of my things down there are in Rubbermaid totes or on bricks. I only have a closet on the first level for my craft desk, it's cozy but dry!! I wish my husband would quit trying to hunt everything all over the US and fix this basement!! I think we need new tiling around the house, but he doesn't want to do that much work or have that expense!! Dumb man, we could double our living space if it was dry down there. Oh well, thanks for letting me vent.

Brenda

My basement flooded three times under a year. The first time a pipe burst downstairs and no one heard anything for over an hour. No real damage, but had to have Disaster Kleenup come in and suck all the water out and we had seven fans and a dehumidifier running for five days to dry it all out.

Then last summer, flood from violent rainstorms. Again, no real damage, but I had just put everything back in from the first flood when the second one struck. Very frightening to see water drip through the wall.

We added another drainpipe outside and put extenders on all the drainpipes so when the water comes down, it goes out to the yard. It looks weird, but I'll do anything to keep the basement dry.
