Default 50% off retired sets????

Has anyone else noticed or have your customers noticed that when they pull up the retired list from the SU! home page the top of the internet page says 50% off current sets... I have already had 10 customer email me and 3 more drop off order forms.
Yikes! I know that it is too good to be true and it does not mention anything about that in the text of the message.
I hope they either honor this (wishful thinking) or fix the problem right away!

I wonder if they are reading the percentage for how much of the document you see on the screen in Acrobat Reader? Mine automatically opened to 52%. Maybe her's opened to 50%? I can't find anything about the sets costing 50%. OMG, I'd be in heaven!!! Hope this helps, Donna

I just went and checked this out and it definately said on my task bar at the bottom 50 per cent of current sets.

I wonder if SU will honour those orders put in because of this?

I just went into the document and mine is showing 50% off also but there is nothing else that says it anywhere...I am thinking it is some kind of a problem from when they did the 50% off sets in March, maybe they just deleted out the form and it didn't take the title or something, they really need to get that fixed quick if it is not going to be 50% off and I am sure it isn't.

Default Retiring Sets

I printed the list from a link to the SU site and the paper DOES NOT state that the sets are 50% off - it would be wonderful if there were but I would think that they are not! But isn't it nice for a moment to dream that they are!!!

I'm 100% sure it was a glitch from them reusing a web template from the March promotion. Would have been nice though! As a customer, I'd have bought a TON of these sets at 50% off! LOL

Hi! I noticed this, too. Here's a snapshot which I took of the webpage. As you see, the webpage title is " 50 Percent Off Current-Catalog Stamps Sets", but they make no mention of this elsewhere.

Maybe it's a goof?

EDIT to add: I'm not a demo, so I found this page title (it's still there) in the general public site.

I went to the regular Stampin Up site and did not see this but also wanted to add that maybe this should be in the demoonly site since there is comments about customers calling so I am assumeing that demos have responded. Jus tmy 2 cents.

Default 50% off C...

This is the message I see when I open the flyer on the customer side of the SU website. If the sets were to be 50% that would be a great promo! I don't think SU would try to hide it in the tool bar when the file is opened. It would be right on the flyer. I wouldn't count on this, and I wouldn't be giving these to customers. I just entered in one of the retired sets on a workshop order and it comes up full price. Sorry no 50% off of the retired sets.

I'm sure that is in error. They were just using the template from the March special.

Well, I too have seen this 50 Percent off... it is in the blue bar at the top of the page in IE6... it is also on the button on my task bar tray.

At the very top of my IE6 window I have a blue bar (same as I have with every page I visit) It says... 50 percent off Current-Catalog Stamp Sets - Microsoft Internet Explorer.... the button says much the same as it does when I hover over or roll over the button with the mouse.

I noticed this heading this morning and it is still there...

To Clarify: This is on that page that opens when you click on the Retiring in Style link before you click on the US flyer or Canadian flyer to get the PDF.

Exclamation If you saw it and copied it SU will have to hold to it.

If they messed up and and left 50% off from the March promo. on something else customers have no way of knowing. If they don't honor it for those who saw it they will create a lot of bad press, and risk legal action if someone decides that they (SU) misrepresented this offer.

It will be interesting to see how they handle it after pulling 139 sets and changing a bunch of colors...all rough on demos who are just trying to do thier jobs. Also, not good press after all of the Utah news papers reported 0ver $200 million in sales for SU's last fiscal year.

If you have customers who saw this and placed orders based on it, by law SU will have to honor them.

If you have documentation (a copy) of what you saw all the better to demand that they honor their word. Isn't that what SU is all about? Hope so.

I just checked and mine looks exactly like the snapshot that avonlea posted...50% off current sets...This is even before you get to the list, so it isn't the size of the document...it says 50% off current catalog sets??

What is the deal? I"m not a demo, this is the link off the main page..How will this be handled?

It's such a shame that SU made this mistake yet again. It is very confusing for everyone. Last month I called them when I saw that the title bar had the title information from the previous month's special. They eventually changed it later that same day. The title field is one that's easy to overlook when copying a page to use as a template. It's right at the top of the HTML script and I have even overlooked it when doing the same thing with my web pages.

It's unfortunate that SU released the list on a Sunday, because no one is around to correct the error. I do believe it is an error!!

Take care, Brenda

No....it does not say 50% ANYWHERE on the flyer. The only place it said anything about 50% is in the title bar for the page. I feel that it is an error in that they most likely used the template from the page for the March specials and did not change the title on the page.

Since I have taken web design and maitenance courses I checked out the source code for this particular page and that is just what the title of the page is called. It probably is a someones lousy housekeeping and I doubt that SU will honor that since it isn't on the printed document itself. This is just my 2 cents worth.

I do not see that at all on mine-I wonder if it matters what browser you use. Mine says:
http://www.stampinup.com/Web2001/retiredStamps.asp
A web adress does not prove that SU is offering a 50% discount, only that is the name of the web page. There is no promise of 50% off on the flyer. They could have named it "www.stampinup.com/RetiringSetstwicethecost" but it does not mean that they would charge twice as much, just that is how they saved the file. There is no mention, other than a web address of 50% off the sets.

Actually it is NOT in the web address... it is actually coded in the page... The Title of the page is...50 Percent Off Current-Catalog Stamp Sets....

Just as the Title of this page.... the one I am using to make this reply is Splitcoaststampers - Reply to Topic

If you know HTML (the language of websites) It is is the <head> </head> section of the code....

It probably is an oversight as it says the same thing on the Celebrate Stamping Page... the Title of the page is the same...50 Percent Off Current-Catalog Stamp Sets... but, from a web developers point of view... I know how this can happen (as it does happen when you reuse a page). However; proof readers are supposed to catch these type of things and when I worked at a B2B site... there were time our company had to honor mistakes that were released on the web... even if they were typo's..... then again there was not not a forum of people communication & pointing out our errors so only a few at best enjoyed our mistakes...

Gosh, I am glad I am not doing B2B anymore...

It is not the address bar but the title bar for the active window.

Is your browser opened fully (window maximized)? If so, you need to reduce the open window and look at the frame that surrounds the window for just the anouncement page, not the pdf file. Everyone keeps say "blue" bar but I have a khaki environment so that may be why so people can not find the right place to look. They have custom environments.

I believe it was an error. A simple, human error. I don't think that anyone should try to take advantage of this, especially when it does not say 50% off in any of the document text. We all know that when something seems too good to be true, it usually is. Just because Stampin' Up! has recently retired a bunch of colors does not give any of us the right to try to give them "bad press" or legal action because a web page developer overlooked a title. The 50% off title also appears in the Journaling CD message, but we all know that is a mistake there. Please don't try ...

Actually, in case law, there is precedent that says they would have to honor it.

My browser brought up the 50% off header. And, that was before I had even looked here. I called my demonstrator who was pretty sure it was a mistake. But, SU may have issues over this. Technically, they have to honor their header...it's part of their advertising.

I'm sure that somewhere SU! has a legalize blurb about typos. Altho this isn't a true typo, it was an oversight on someone's part.

I'm thinking of applying for a job at SU! when I'm out there for convention - they really do need someone to proof everything before it goes out. I'm by no means perfect - but part of my job is proofreading, and I think I'm pretty anal. Hope there aren't too many mistakes in the new catty that we'll have to worry about!

I hope you're not implying that people who expect a company to honor their bad editing are unethical? Honestly, I ran across this error and contacted my demo early, early this morning--- before I even ran across it here. I can totally understand protecting your employer... I truly do. And, you're an extremely loyal employee if you would suggest that anyone expecting them to honor their advertising is somehow trying to take advantage. But, the truth is, businesses are held to a very high standard in their advertising. Knowing that this has happened before makes it even worse...although, just from the newbie POV: the march sale was only related to their mini-catalog. You couldn't just buy "any current catalog stamp" for 50% off. I'm surprised their wasn't a squawk over THAT potentially damaging slip of semantics. Ads must be VERY specific when you are dealing with FTC rules. SU needs to hire a new ad editor if they make these kinds of mistakes routinely.

All I'm saying is, before you rush to judge the motives of others, maybe you should stop and recognize that most people aren't out to "take advantage" of SU. I know I'm not. However, I know what's been posted on their website for over 12 hours now. Even if it is Sunday, someone is supposed to be held responsible 24/7 for making sure these types of errors are recanted. Hundreds of companies make mistakes weekly...why should SU be exempt from the reprocussions of their mistakes?

*hopes that I don't get clobbered for posting this*

EDIT: Here's what the FTC says:
"Sellers are responsible for claims they make about their products and services. Third parties—such as advertising agencies or web site designers and catalog marketers—also may be liable for making or disseminating deceptive representations if they participate in the preparation or distribution of the advertising, or know about the deceptive claims. "

"Advertising agencies or web site designers are responsible for reviewing the information used to substantiate ad claims. They may not simply rely on an advertiser’s assurance that the claims are substantiated."

To Barbcowan and other who are not sure..

B2B is an acronym for Business to Business in the web industry. When a website sells strictly to other companies (and not the public) it is often considered a B2B.

Sorry, I forget sometimes that not everyone know all the acronyms... heck, there are times when I see acronyms here and I am befuddled... I should know better! Sorry, for any confusion my post may have caused.

Kathleen

I am not a demo, but figure there is no way the will do that ....BUT, there are a few sets on the list I was thinking of purchasing and it would make the purchasing of them easier on my pocket book.

How soon can one of you guys call SU in the morning to check it out?? When do the open???

I for one will stand up and say that it is unethical to try to take advantage - yes, that IS what anyone would be doing - if they try to make SU offer their sets at 50% off. I am completely grossed out by the lack of conscience of so many people. SU offers so many great deals and benefits to thier customers. They donate an insane amount of money to very worthy charities and causes, but if you feel that you would like to dip into those profits and take away from the good that they do with them b/c a pure and simple HUMAN error (Wow! Did you know that people are still not perfect and still make mistakes?!?) I can only say shame on you. Everyone knows and continues to say that it was a mistake. It was not advertised....it was on SOME people's bars. Not in the address, not in the flyer, not on their website....it was in your browser bar.

This is by no means directed at those that are saying it would be cool and it is a nice dream. I too think it would be cool and a nice dream. There is a big difference between thinking it would be neat and finding the legal verbage and arguing that SU has to honor it. I for one would like to spend my energy not trying to work the system but being a kind-hearted, hard working, honest person as I am sure most people would as well.
