Default Has anyone sponge stamped on walls?

I want to color one of my smaller walls. But, I don't really want to paint it, maybe just sponge some color on it. Does anyone have any tips?

Head for Home Depot. I looked at the wallpaper books until I found a look I wanted, then I headed for the paint department and had them tell me exactly how to do it with paint.

Have done this many times. Pay attention to the striations on your sponge and make sure it has a really good "pattern." You will have to decide if you want a warm color on top or the cool one, if you are using a combination of colors like this. For example, I did a light green with white. Big difference depending on which color got sponged first. In my living room I have 3 colors. Did the darkest as the base, lightest second, used the medium color with a glaze on top to create a warmer tone.

My advise, if you doing a small wall, even if it is 12' wide by 8' tall you will only need a small can of paint. It does not take very much paint to cover a wall with a sponge.

My husband LOVES when I stamp and sponge on the walls. He has FORBIDDEN wallpaper and borders and likes when I get creative. We've been redoing our kitchen and I'm now ready to do some stamping in there. Have decided on a blueberry theme and have FINALLY found an appropriate leaf stamp so that along with a circle and my craft pads and I'm good to go. It sure is fun 'coloring' on the walls!

I used a sponge and paint w/ glaze in my bathroom. Love the look. Just save some time to do complete sections. I did mine during naps so it took a week or so for a small bathroom. You can tell in some places where I stopped and started...some areas I had a heavier hand with the sponge or the way I sponged looked different.

It is pretty easy. Best thing to do is to practice on a extra piece of sheetrock/wallboard first.
Buy a large Natual Sponge, not a store/kitchen sponge. But different sponges will give you a different look.
Wet the sponge and wring it out before starting. After you touch it in the paint and before you touch the wall blot the sponge off on newspaper. After a few practice blots/touches you will get the technique. Use a light touch and random movements or it will be strip-y.
Dark wall with lighter color over it is a softer look.
Light wall with darker color over it is a brighter louder look.
If you go back over a bright look with the base color you can soften the bold look, if it is too bright.

Our local Fleet Farm carries sample packets of paint, like 3 oz, look for some of those for experimenting. I think the little bottles of stencil/ceramic paints would work too. At least to experiment with colors and techniques.

Go For It!

Thankyou everyone for the great advice!! I just did my bathroom. Used the sponge from SU and my rose red craft pad at first then went over it again with some light red acrylic paint. It looks ok, for my first time.
Thanks again.
