cardmaker2 08-25-2007 12:27 PM

What!! For 152.00 I could have drawn that buyer some lines!

Stampin SandyH 08-25-2007 12:31 PM

That must be one really old stamp. I don't ever remember seeing it.

franb63 08-25-2007 12:32 PM

Uhmm wait I think I have two of those!! *runs to ebay*

HOLY CRIKEY!! what are ppl thinking??

cdjkssss 08-25-2007 01:00 PM

Wow, I had one of those. I bought it on ebay for about $10, then later sold it for about $15. And I thought I did okay!

MWDStamp 08-25-2007 01:02 PM

That is nuts. Why would you pay that much for a background stamp. I don't understand. I think I need to start putting some of my old stuff up for auction.

Boss 08-25-2007 01:06 PM

You have two of those? Hmmm, I only have one. I really DO!!:D It was the first bg stamp I ever bought from SU- the date on the sticker label is 1997.

I would be willing to part with this for only $100 and I could probably be talked into free shipping if it was stateside! ;) Any takers?

SweetHeidiJo 08-25-2007 01:13 PM

I wonder how many of these 'outrageous' bidders actually go through with the purchase. People can do a lot of things on impulse!

Kittypaws 08-25-2007 03:51 PM

More money than sense.

okstamper 08-25-2007 03:54 PM

OMG! I would never pay that much for a stamp. I dont care what it is..I just cant believe it..My DH would not be happy if I bought a piece of wood for that price.

Bonnie

BasketOHearts 08-25-2007 04:10 PM

You know, if the buyer has the money, and knows what they are doing, and wants it - hey, why not?

It's not about more money than sense. Maybe it's the one stamp she really wanted to make wedding invitations or something. You never know.

stamp300 08-25-2007 06:25 PM

That's the most outragious thing I ever saw and I won't even pay $30.00 for the SU retired "Fishin" set on Ebay.

Connie

craftycrunchymama 08-25-2007 07:03 PM

I just spent that much on my first SU order! Crazy.

RockyMountainStamper 08-25-2007 07:53 PM

I just DON'T understand this one! I've seen some of those auctions go sky high, but they were for those 'hafta have' sets--Wild Wild West, Dreams & Dragons, Fishin, etc.

But a Background stamp with a bunch of lines? For THAT much?

***shaking my head in disbelief***

Shanon 08-25-2007 07:55 PM

I never "believe" the outrageous auctions.
Sorry, but that is just me.

How do you find these? Do you juwt happen to be on at the aution's end, does it catch your eye as you are browsing or is there a way to find them? Just curious.

momsquiltn 08-25-2007 08:42 PM

That's very interesting. There are two others listed... I'm watching just to see what happens and if it was a fluke. I have liked this stamp for a long while, but it was retired before I started stamping. I think paying that much is a little crazy too.

stampmouse 08-25-2007 08:45 PM

152? wow you could buy a whole kit for around that price (trying to remember how much it is)

I happen to be bidding on something else and this particular auction was listed close to it and the price caught my eye. I normally don't see these either unless it's posted here. I know you can do a search for Stampin' Up and then have it listed by price and that is one way to see what is going for a lot of money.

Thank you for the clarification; I've been so curious about the links we share and how we manage to see them. Still a WOW. :D But as Shanon implied kinda hard to believe.

madebyme 08-26-2007 01:43 PM

I don't know if I really believe it either. I always wonder if they are able to "scam" things like this (like having a friend pushing up the bidding). I know someone once said that ebay has ways of stopping that, but I don't know!

tmd95 08-26-2007 04:22 PM

Ok, that's insane.

djuseless 08-27-2007 10:19 AM

OMG, I can't believe that! That is totally obnoxious!!!!

I am trying to sell 10 retired sets and 1 current set for BIN $125 and I have had to repost it since it did not sell the first time. Anyone interested, it is:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...MESE:IT&ih=015

It ends at 7 p.m. EST. TFL!!!

bondgurl 08-27-2007 10:57 AM

If I'm not mistaken, having someone (or yourself) bid on an auction to drive up the price is called "shilling". Ebay takes it very seroiusly. The last time I checked though, thier main way of catching shillers was by reports from ebay users. I've also seen auctions "mysteriously" end with no winner, only to be re-listed a day later.

If you have suspicions (grounded of course) you should report them.

That being said, that is an insane amount to pay for a stamp! I'm just thinking about all the other *stuff* I could get for that kind of money!!
