Why reinvent the wheel.....
 

So, I'm great at "recovering" notebooks and things, UNLESS they are spiral bound .....anybody have a great way to recover a spiral bound notebook and make it look great? Thanks

If you search the gallery for the word "spiral" you'll find several examples. Most look like the original cover was left as a sort of frame for the added embellishments. But Stamp_a_licious says here that she removes the spiral and makes a new cover. http:////www.splitcoaststampers.com/...what=titledesc I think it must be time consuming to get the spiral back in!!!!

Amen sista! AND to take it out! Thus the question! There has to be another way to use the original cover without having any of it showing...maybe a way of cuting the very edge of the cs next to the spiral?

We covered a spiral notebook at a workshop I attended. It was really easy and looked great. Cut your cardstock the same size as the cover of the spiral notebook. Then you tear out a sheet of the notebook paper and lay it over the top of the cardstock to use as a template. Take a pencil and mark in where every hole is. Then remove the cover template and punch out the holes on the cardstock with the small 1/16" hole punch. You then cut a slit at every hole from the edge of the cardstock to the hole. Then glue/tape the cardstock over the notebook cover and where the slits are you can slip right over the spirals. Then just stamp away and decorate. If you have any questions let me know.

WOW! and DUH! so simple "I should'a thought of it."

Actually, it really doesn't take that long to take out and "re-thread!" I haven't done a ton of them, but it can't be more than 2-3 minutes to do it, and it looks SO much better, in my opinion.

It doesn't take long at all to take out the coil, I thought the same at first, that it would be next to impossible to get that in and out, but that is not the case. Just give it a try... if it doesn't come out easy one way try reversing and going the other way... (if that makes sense)

I also say take out the coil...a simple way to do this is to simply remove the coil, and put either a toothpick or a bread bag tie into the top and bottom holes so you don't have to worry about realigning the paper afterwards, then cover the original front of the notebook and punch out the holes, then simply place on top of the notebook and recoil! :)

I've done something similar to this on small spiral bound notebooks where you put the cover face down a piece of cs cut to the same size, make pencil marks, punch holes and slits, and attach. The slits are all but invisible. Everyone is very impressed by this.

I always clamp the notebook first with a wooden clothespin, not including the cover. Use your pliers and unbend the ends of the spiral, it makes it tons easier to take out. After its out, Cut the cardstock the same size as the cover, hold it the cover over your cardstock and use your hole punch (1/16th) to punch the same holes. Stamp your cardstock and replace the cover with it. Re-spiral your notebook. I have only done the small ones spiraled at the top, but this has worked perfectly and is so impressive looking. Make a matching RSVP pen and voila! A great Christmas gift!
