Do you do the Make & Takes at Scrapbooking Conventions?
So, its starting to get to be scrapbooking expo/convention season near where I live and it got me thinking about the vendor halls since I'm considering being an exhibitor at one of these events. I'm curious for all of you that attend these huge expos, do you like to do make & takes at the different vendor booths in the exhibition halls or just browse the products and samples? I think about all the times I've gone and I've done a few make & takes but not many... though the last few events I've had a baby in tow so that makes it harder!
Anyway, I was curious if most people like to do the make & takes (and does it matter much what the project is and if there is a small supply fee?) or not.
I think I'm more inclined to really go INTO a booth rather than just walk by if there's a project I can do, especially for free. I'd probably not want to pay much unless it was an advanced or supply-heavy project. I would think doing 3x3 cards, bookmarks, or gift tags could be a smaller free M&T, and would be willing to pay $1 (or whatever fee is in line with other vendors, which may be hard to know) if it was a full size card or 3D item. I'm more likely to talk to people or look at products while waiting my turn, I think.
At the scrapbook expo near me, most booths do not have M&Ts, not enough room I think. I don't stop and make the ones I see, the crowds kinda bother me and I just want to get through the booths. The best way to get more info would be to get a vendor list from the last show and check how many had projects and what they were charging. Good luck!

It depends. If there's a huge crowd at the table, no. If it's a technique I want to try and I can get a seat, yes. I don't usually pay, but did once and am glad I did because I learned a cool watercoloring technique. A free one taught me the gamsol technique, which I still use often.
I'm mostly there to shop. But I have friends who are mostly there to look at the samples and do the make and takes.
The last expo I attended had very vew make and takes. One was working with glitter, which seemed like a really bad idea. Glitter was everywhere.

No blog for me. My gallery chronicles my card-making successes and mishaps.
I almost always do the make n takes. I like to see what they're doing and I need to sit and rest for a bit as I get tired doing so much walking. So, I guess I really like to just take a load off my feet every so often.
When I go to conventions I go to shop and like several have said, the M&T areas are busy or messy quite often. A demo of new products can generate sales too.
No ... usually because it's crowded (no seat or you are likely to bump elbows if you did find one). Plus, I almost always goof up in some way and end up with nothing close to what the project should look like (so I stop and keep the supplies to not have good stuff go to waste on something I wouldn't display, give or use in some other way.)
However, I will usually watch the ones that interest me several times to try to remember how it's done.
Thanks everyone for the great feedback! Sounds like maybe doing some interesting stamping technique would be a good idea. That way people who want to sit down and do it can try it out and others who don't want to mess with it could watch if it looked interesting or not. But this is super interesting to hear how everyone navigates exhibition halls at these things.... so if anyone else wants to chime in, it'd be fun to hear what you do!
