Default white gel pens

OK so I need some advice please on white gel pens. I wanted to have a go at faux stitching so I got Gelly Roll Glaze pen by Sakura as I always thought Sakura pens were supposed to be of a high quality.

Well this pen doesn't show up white on any colour cardstock - at best it is clear with a bluey-white tinge in certain lights

Does it sound like I have a dodgy one or have other people found the Sakura Gelly Roll Glaze pens to be less than satisfactory? Any suggestions as to what brand(s) I might have more luck with?

Thanks
Pootle

The white gel pen SU sells works the best for faux stitching!

I bought the white Sakura pen, and I had the same experience as you. It's terrible. So then I bought the one that SU sells, and it is so much better.

I did not like gel pens, because I could not find a decent one.

Then Stampin' Up came out with theirs, and it is awesome!

I own three because I have hoarding issues, and am now quite the paper seamstress.

Oh, and it looks so cute dotted in the middle of flowers, and rain boots, of course, (thanks to JulieHRR), and for depth lines and any other deco I can think of....

I have also purchased several Sakura pens, and they were AWEFUL! I spent probably $15 trying to find a good white gel pen (kept buying new brands, etc), and finally got the SU one... it's like night and day! Definately buy the one from SU. It's by Uni-ball Signo.

HTH!

Did you pick up a "stardust" pen by Sakura, or an opaque white? You seem to be describing the effect of the stardust pen.

I had my SU! white pen out last night as well as my bag of Sakura gel pens - and they are very different effects and opacity. If you are looking for opaque bright white with a sheen - the SU! Signo pen is the ticket.

Sakura now has 3-D glaze pens out now that leave a translucent raised image, be warned, highly addictive!

Hmmm....I have all the other Sakuras & they work great. I also got my white one from SU & love it. I have one that is a clear glitter, it's in a white barrel. Maybe you got this one by mistake??

Definitely buy the stampin up pen - I have tried a couple of other brands from Joann's or Michaels and they dry up quickly and tend to 'skip' on the paper. The stampin up pen is so worth it!

Seeing that you are in England, I can understand that you may not have access to the white gel pen SU! carries.

While I favor the Uniball Signo over every other brand of white gel pen I've ever used, I do believe Sakura does make a good one, in the white glaze.

Given the results you've described, it sounds to me like the one you have is either defective, OR, indeed the Stardust pen someone else described or the CLEAR glaze pen!

The cap on the white glaze pen should be a glossy, very stark white color; they also make a clear glaze pen that has more of a frosty white color and they are VERY easily confused; ask me how I know! LOL! Also the pen works better if you write slowly, as opposed to quickly, to avoid skipping, etc.

I suspect you may have actually purchased one of the other pens, as opposed to the glaze white.

Also, Sakura makes yet another pen called "Souffle" that is on the same principle, but has a matte white finish--the cap is a also stark white, but matte finish, and again, it's easy to confuse all three of these pens: the glossy white, matte white, and clear, due to the caps on the pens.

HTH,

the SU pen so far works the best for me. Others dry up way to fast.

Thank you so much for the clarification and recommendations I will go back to the shop I got it from and ask if perhaps I have picked up the wrong one - from what JulieHRR said there doesn't seem to be much difference between the caps. Of course they couldn't do something useful like label the side of the pen could they?!

Will let you know how I get on

Thanks again, much appreciated

Mine ran out the other day in the middle of my project... so dashed to the store - came up with the correction pen (like wite out but in a pen form) with rollerball tip & all!! works like a charm as long as you go slowly, but the line is MUCH thicker

I made the mistake of buying the color pack of the Gelly Roll Glaze pens (40% off luckily) ond am very disapointed! They have the best gell pens but, the glaze pens that are supposed to be textured are junk! They come out mostly clear and do not dry raised like the packege says.

So I went to my LCS after work and the owner agreed that it must be a clear pen rather than the opaque white - she's refunded it for now and is going to try and get some opaque ones in In the mean time I shall keep an eye out for an Uniball Signo one.

She didn't have any yellow glass paint in either so that's 2 projects on hold now!
