Okay, this will NEVER not be funny to me! (Ebay related)
Now someone is probably going to defend these bidders, but for the life of me I don't know how! Surely if these people stamp/scrap/craft, they have walked into a M's or J's and seen this exact punch made by EK Success (which I also believe makes this SU one) on the shelf for $10, right...I mean come on people, you can get it for $6 with a coupon! I have seen this SU version sell for as much as $50 on Ebay more than once. And if that isn't bad enough, it's USED! Who knows how much life it even has left? All because it says "retired" on it? Sheeeesh!
Art is intended to provoke an emotion from a total stranger. If youve succeeded in this, consider yourself an artist. Paper Shanks Blog. Love me or hate me, you are still talking about me
What I would love to do is take a couple of hundred $$ and buy some SU sets that in 10 years I can sell on ebay for over a hundred dollar each like that cowboy set that did.???? Why can't I be that lucky?
I am going to a terrible funk realizing that my older sizzix dies are not worth anything but I still remember the great feeling I had buying them and using them previously.
Lorri.V........Your older Sizzix dies are worth a whole lot......to you! You liked them when you purchased them and can still make very nice embellishments with them for your cards and other paper crafting. Also can be used for cutting fabric, foam, metal, leather, etc for home decor items.
The dies are valuable to you. Too many people only look at their craft tools as "how much can I get for them if I sell them?".
I can't get over how much people pay on ebay for the Michael's clear $1 stamp sets! I saw one a few days ago bid up to $21.00 and there was still over a day to go. Crazy...
My guess on this stuff is maybe someone lives out in the middle of nowhere with no Michael's or Joann's etc. If you can't get something and then you are willing to pay that kind of money for it. But you are right I have seen several brands of that sort of punch for approx $10
i think it's just the people who maybe can't get them where they live. trust me, it sucks to know you're paying, twice what someone else paid, but when you want something....

I think some of it might be that people prefer their products to match??? So, SU! punches are black, but the one's directly from EK success are colored. Sure, they are the exact same thing, but some just like matchy matchy.
What amazes me is that people will bid high prices on a small amount cardstock that is still current in the catty! Or anything for that matter that all they have to do is call a demo and they could save themselves alot of money. A while I saw a package of cardstock in Mellow Moss go for $21.00!!
I wanted so bad to email these people to call a demo and save themselves $15.00 but you can't do that and they are already locked into that bid.
I have seen the pre-cut cardstock pieces go high amounts as well.
WRT: the pre cut cardstock: convenience, baby..that and a complete and total lack of anything vaguely resembling an ability to come up with matching colors and patterned paper.
I have purchased the pre cut sets before, and liked them.. not becuase I cannot cut my own cardstock, I can, but because I am not necessarily sure I like the color scheme, or am unsure about the patterned paper. with limited space, I can't exactly indulge my whims and buy large copious amounts of cardstock.
I am fairly new to this, and trust me when I say that some of the color schemes that people have come up with I never in a million years would have thought to do. I can dabble without breaking the bank.
as for other stuff: I have my own limits, rarely will I go over retail . I figure If I didn't like it enough to buy it BEFORE it retired, I don't like it enough to buy it afterwards.

Actually the ones I am talking have nothing to do with matching or color schemes. I have seen tehm where the lot is 1 half sheet of each color in a color family. So you get 12 1/2 sheets of SU cardstock in say the Soft Subtles. Then I have seen these go for as much as $12.00! You can actaully buy an assortment for much less than that and have a full 3sheets of each 12 colors!

Well shucks I just sold a bunch at a stamp sale for .50 cents!!!
I live in an area that doesn't have a craft store closer than an hour away (yes it is tough!) so i could see why someone would shop ebay...but the thing i don't understand is this: if you're shopping ebay you obviously have the internet so why not shop m's or j's that way and get this stuff cheaper?!? I wish i had craft money to burn like that!!

That is funny... I paid $10 for mine brand new in a Branson, MO scrapbook store.. there is an ebay seller that CONSTANTLY sells the double hole punches, or some of the other small punches for around $20. soon as one sells, they list another.. I just shake my head that they get away with it and shake my head that there are people out there dumb enough to pay that much. Pam

I normally wouldn't post this but I have an 8 year old pop tart that has a perfect crucifix toasted on it- After reading this thread I went to the shelf where I have it hidden and wrapped in a cloth napkin- I haven't checked it in like 2 years and it now has a tiny amount of mold on it- it didn't 2 years ago.
I have no idea why I hold on to it but I do- now that the mold has surfaced I think I'll be chucking it soon.
All I can say is that no mold after 6 years is a testimony to preservatives.
As a seller on ebay, I have many customers from other countries and many here in the USA that live in rural areas and also customers who are disabled and can't get out.
I wish you could order directly from someone's SU website and have it shipped directly.
As phax2elp said before....as a buyer/seller on ebay, International buyers are having a hayday as their $$ is worth SO much more then ours right now, they can get a deal, even if they are paying WAY over retail....b/c they can't get it or because maybe the SU in their country has much higher pricing or the item isn't available yet to them and they want it now....we all know how that Want it Now works....right?
