Default Where do you get your inspiration from?

Where do you get your ideas for cards? What inspires you?
Does anyone else walk through the mall or a store or anywhere see something and think "Hey I can stamp that? Or make that into a card or scrapbook page?"
Did you ever awake in the middle of the night with an idea and just have to go get it out?

My inspiration and ideas come at the weirdest times and places. Like the mall or a store. And it isn't usually from other cards/gift wrap cause I don't go in the card store/aisle anymore. It comes from patterns on clothes or dishes or anything.

Most of my inspiration comes from this site, so many incredible ideas!

But I've bought every magazine I can get my hands on, checked out books from the library, and use the SU catalog alot too.

So little time, so much to create.

I saw a carpet yesterday and thought "hey, I could stamp that!"

I made a really cute glittery card that was inspired by the shoes of a little girl I was baby sitting!! You just never know!

Hmmm... I get some from here, some from magazines, some inspiration comes from marketing ads (yes, lots of great layouts and colors out there), and some comes from a muse I suppose.

The sources for my inspiration are somewhat abstract. I'm an art history student and did paper and fabric arts for about 20 years before starting to stamp, so I find it difficult to describe inspiration using words. Which is, of course, why I stamp: it's another language to use to communicate.

Someplaces that I've found inspiration for stamping include:
- packaging from a bar of expensive French soap (I'll upload this one -- it was just published in Take Ten IV)
- a beautiful chair in a British decorating magazine
- wallpaper from an Austrian palace
- a bowl of limes and oranges
- a 13th century manuscript

Inspiration often comes from colour combinations that I see, but it can come from anywhere!

And yes, some of my best ideas come in the middle of the night. I find that thinking about stamping and colour combos is a great way to relax my busy brain and allow me to drop off to sleep.

Fun topic!

Default inspiration

I get creative when I see some beautiful samples here on Splitcoast. From time to time looking at some people's clothing helps me too. The color combinations gets my "creative juices" going.

Funny. I was up late the other night stamping and wanted to do something "different" so after some pondering, I looked at my jammies and thought...hummm looks like Roses in Winter to me.

Now...the base color of the pj's is close to Blush Blossom, the roses are Only Orange and Ruby Red with Basic Black as the smallest rose stamp (of the three) and Old Olive for the leaves. I did a whole sheet, it turned out pretty good (I used Craft Ink, little more opaque) I was inspired by my PJ's!
