Default altered clipboard help needed

I made my first altered clipboard. I put hodge podge over the painted area and it dried it white. I used a pretty pink paint with white craft flowers and the flowers all disappeared. I had to repaint the area. What did I do wrong? Second how do you finish off the back? I'm leaning to cover it, even though I painted it, because I've got paper and ribbon on the back and it looks messy.
Thoughts, suggestions, and help greatly appreciated.
Cher

I don't understand. Did the flowers not have enough contrast that they blended in?

This is why I now seal mine with a matte finish acrylic spray. If you get the matte finish spray, it's not too shiny and it seals with out streaking or discoloring the images. I mask off the metal clip with painters tape and use a cut away spray box and do a couple light coats. It takes minutes to dry and gives a beautiful finish. I agree that the backs should be done too because that's what people see if they actually use it as a clipboard! If it's hanging on a wall as a notes organizer then leave it blank.
This shows the light sheen from the acrylic spray:

Have fun!

Weird! I have made a few and always used regular Mod Podge and it's been great! I leave the back plain, but some like to paint or decorate it. If someone is really gonna use it for a clipboard, try to keep the front as smooth as possible, meaning not many things sticking up on your board.

I used acrylic paint for the background and craft ink for the images. On two of the boards I used paper on the bottom halves and adhered it with modge podge but I quickly abandoned that for speed sake (I did 14 clipboards total last year... see more in my gallery!) and tried to stick with paint and craft ink. I used small pieces of card stock for the small images and I used ribbon on one (again abandoned to keep the surface smooth). After using the one I kept for myself all year, I think it was wise not to have alot of embellishments on it because I really do use mine for a clipboard (go figure)!!!
