I converted a hallway closet into my stamp set storage. My husband installed sliding wire baskets (runners screwed to shelf so they pull out like a drawer) that we got from a hardware store (found in the closet organizer section).
Then I organized them by themes. All my sayings, birthday, celebrations, etc. on the top shelf. Flowers and nature on the second shelf, etc. Then I wrote down what was on what shelf and put either a 1, 2, 3, or 4 next to it. One (1) was for the first shelf, 2 for the second shelf, etc.
Then I typed all that information onto my computer and highlighted it and clicked on sort. Now all my sets are on a list in alphabetical order and just right of it is the number telling me which shelf the set is on.
This way if I want a specific set I can look on my list. If I know I want a flower set but not sure which one I want (or even sadder-can't remember all the flower sets I have *Ü*) I can just go to the second shelf and there are all my flower/nature sets to look through.
It sounds like a lot of work but you only do it once. You can add sets and get rid of set - then just go to your computer and delete or add the set. You can print off a new list or just pencil it into your exsisting hard copy.
I have been using this system for about 5 years now and have been real happy with it. I have a lot of sets and fear that I would win if the saying is correct---she who dies with the most sets wins.
