whats wrong with my SU rotary arm?
I bought the rotary arm accessory for my SU trimmer in Feb. 2014. Unfortunately I just pulled it out to start using it and noticed that it is cutting at angles. I can't get a straight square cut no matter what I do. Is there a known issue with this arm that anyone's aware of? I'm not sure how long a warranty SU gives and have a text in to my demo but i thought I'd check with all of you to see if you have any ideas about why this is happening

Maybe I should have put this in tools and products forum.

Are you using it with the "full" side up of the cutting mat (as opposed to the side with the "track" in it)? That would make a difference.

I have this on my list to buy. I hope this works out for you.

Contact the Demonstrator that you bought the attachment from or contact Stampin' Up! directly, I am sure that they'll be happy to send out a replacement for you. It should cut straight.
Hope that helps. |
I'm still waiting to hear from my demo. But I bought it in Feb 2014 even though I just got it out to use it now so I'm not sure they would send me a new one.

Thanks. I sent them an email with pictures. Maybe they will but I have to try either way. I can't cut with it this way because nothing is square.

I don't have the SU trimmer. However, I have a making memories rotary trimmer. One thing I quickly learned if I wanted straight cuts was that i CANNOT put the paper flush against the top or bottom of the trimmer. It must be aligned on the ruler/grid: the ruler is calibrated for proper cuts. The plastic housing is not.
Perhaps that is the trick to yours as well. |
I thought of that , too, Emily. I used just grid lines and still an angle.

One thing that works for me with my Fiskars rotary cutter is to cut bringing the blade down instead of pushing it up. I line my CS to the bottom of the trimmer and pull the blade down. I'm not sure why that makes a difference but it works for me. I line the paper up at the top when I have to make 1/16th cuts as the bottom grid is only 1/8 markings.
When I cut with the CS at the top I usually don't get straight cuts either. Not as pronounced as yours but its still off. |
Tried that too, but didn't help. And the rotary blade is meant to be pushed away from you but I tried it anyway. All good ideas....just wish that they would work.
