You're playing around designing cards--say for a challenge or VSN, or trying out a new technique.
The card you come up with is respectably crafted (no unintentional crooked/frayed cuts, smudged images or other 'oops!'-ies).
But, you're not really inspired to use it personally (e.g., it's not your style, it's for an occasion you're not likely to have, it's not up to the level of your artistic reputation etc.)
I'd deconstruct it, figure out what it was I didn't like about it, and adjust it accordingly. If I could not figure it out, I'd set it aside. Sometimes the best thing is just to set it down and come back to it later, I have a file cabinet drawer nearly half-filled with projects I am not ready to complete. I'll come back around to them eventually.

I photograph everything.
then i set it aside, sometimes the very next day i rip it apart sometimes it takes months, but i don't mail out cards i am not happy with. fortunately this doesn't happen too much. in fact i did just do this to two cards yesterday.
I put an envelope of cards that "aren't my style- yet I wanted to try something new" in an envelope and then donate them to the troops. I hope maybe it will be someone's style that they would like to send home.
If the card is ok, but just not "me" enough that I would send it to someone, it usually gets donated (cards for soldiers, hospitals, etc.). I figure that even if I don't really care for it, someone else might want to use it.
I rarely take cards apart and adjust them - I'm too impatient to take them apart gently, so when they go back together, they look worse than when I started. If I don't like something, I usually just make a new card with the adjustment.
I also have a pile of cards that are just not ones I was happy with, but are not that bad. I do give quite a few to my mom to send to others, since she loves everything I make. Don't all moms? LOL
I do have a few non-cardmaking friends that have come over and gone through the pile and took a few for their use too. They found them really pretty.
Isn't it funny how we look at our cast offs and would not use them...while others look at it and ooogle and go OH WOW, this is awesome!
I've never done VSN but if I make a card for a challenge that is not exactly my taste, I would just send it out to someone I think would like it. If it was horrible, I wouldn't post it and probably throw it out!
I'd donate it to a church or, my personal mission at this time - for the troops overseas. If you don't have access or money for cards, they are truly appreciated.
