What will go next for SU?

What do you think will retire at the end of this catty? What do you hope goes or stays?

I have an ever growing wish list and there are a few things on there that I haven't gotten yet that are a little "old" and I'm afraid they are going to be next to go!

Forgot I was in the BST forum... please move for me!!;)

beaddict 03-17-2008 12:10 PM

I think Eat Cake is getting a little old. And I really dislike the Dilly-Dally items.
Greetings Galore can go away....seems like it's been around forever. Year After Year is just plain ugly IMO. Polka Dots & Paisley....Wild Rose....Noble Deer.....Office Accoutrement....I won't miss in the least....

Waht I have to get before they are no longer.....Peaceful Wishes, Touch Of Nature, Lovely As A Tree, Ahoy Matey

stacey carter 03-17-2008 01:47 PM

I too wouldn't mind seeing greetings galore retire but it is a set in the starter kit so I don't know if that will buy it more time. I wouldn't be suprised if Simply Said and Be Happy retired.

I would cry if I lost Lovely as a Tree. It is such a great set and I use it so much.

jessthenurse 03-17-2008 03:13 PM

ITA, the Dilly-Dally stuff is just plain ugly. I would really like to see them get rid of the cartoon-ish cat set and bring in a realistic one!

Kittypaws 03-17-2008 03:32 PM

The cartoonish cat set and dog set are both awful, IMO. Why can't we get some realistic cats and dogs such as the animals in the Wild set? I like more realistic sets myself. I can see having cartoonish sets for small children, but I would like to see more realistic sets for teens and adults.

jranagel 03-17-2008 04:25 PM

I WANT SCOUT SETS!!!!

Yes, I am shouting. They need to bring back some scout sets, just not as childish this time.

Anemone 03-17-2008 05:35 PM

Dissenting voice here - I love my Dilly-Dally Friends wheel and have the other two dilly-dally wheels on my wish list. I think I recall reading somewhere that anything new this time around would not be retiring for a bit (not sure where I read that, and not sure if it applied only to the SS colletection or to the FW collection as well.)
There are still quite a few sets in the catty that have been there for a number of years - the earliest catalogue I own is 2001-2002 and some of the sets in the current catalogue are in that one. (One is Lovely as a Tree, which I must admit I hope they don't retire.) My guess would be that some of those much older sets will retire this time around.

GreenDragonLady 03-17-2008 05:38 PM

All of the stamp sets that are NEW to the spring/summer 2008 catty will be available to purchase for 12 months (might not be physically in the next catalog but will still be able to be purchased)

CindyMonica 03-17-2008 06:27 PM

I really hope to see the cartoon cat & dog sets go I want more realistic sets of those. I also hope to see SU start selling unmounted sets or at the very least just let people buy just the rubber sheets, I have so little space for stamp sets I have to unmount so I can store them all.

Great idea - for SU to start selling unmounted sets - because in essence that is exactly what they sell - except you must get the wooden blocks - and pay for them - like it or not.

Choice would be a good thing!

craftingcaren 03-18-2008 06:43 AM

I really want scouts sets too! I like the cartoon ones.

meluvstampin 03-18-2008 07:51 AM

I read somewhere a while ago that the wood mounts are are apart of their "signature" like CTMH you think of clear stamps now and TAC is unmounted rubber. I am one that likes the wood mounts. But it would be nice to have a choice for those that do want unmounted. In the article thing I read it also stated that people do have the choice by not mounting the sets on the wood and that is a plus for sending the stamps the way they do. That way you do not have to use the wood blocks. Many people use the wood for other things.
I want to see a nice SKATEBOARDING set for all of us that have those teenage boys in our lives that live for their skateboards.

ITA - I have unmounted 40 sets in the last two weeks. It is getting old and I have a lot more to go.

Preach it, Sister! Bombard SU with e-mails while you're at it. I've written them so many times requesting dog & cat sets that don't look stupid! The horse & deer sets have been fabulous... seems like some artist they have on staff could draw dogs and cats too!

ebeart 03-18-2008 10:58 AM

I want nothing more than unmounted stamps, even though I am pretty sure it's just not going to happen, although it is a big anniversary year so maybe we'll see a change. I am also hoping for a new Judaic set, more realistic stamp sets to color and watercolor and maybe even a new hedgehog set!

ebethneu 03-19-2008 12:54 PM

I absolutely, 100% want 'Tree for all seasons' to GO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I can't help it, I am so tired of seeing it return each catalog! I don't know why it drives me nuts!

Also the cat and dog sets I would like to see go and have better one's. I don't care if they are realistic or still cartoonish, but I think the current sets are a little ugly.

Geribeari 03-19-2008 01:23 PM

I agree that Tree of All Season has to go...but I LOVE Lovely as a Tree and if you don't have it you should get it before it does retire.

YES!

I too think it is unlikely that SU! will offer unmounted, but it would be nice to have the option.

beckaroni 04-17-2008 01:37 PM

My 2 cents .....

I look for Heartfelt Thanks, Lovely as a Tree, and Touch of Nature to retire. I wish they would make some golf stamp sets, get well stamp sets, sympathy sets, hedgehog stamp sets, more two step stamp sets, and some border punches for the new catalog. I would also like to see a new punch/tag set like they had a few years ago. I really wasn't too impressed with the last newest stamps they brought out esp. the hostess stamp selection. Happy Stamping everyone !!!!! Beckaroni 8)

YES! A new get well set would be grand. I can't stand the punny stuff and want something sweet, whimsical, or sincere. I don't know...something different! It's always surprised me that SU doesn't have several get well sets, but I'm sure their selection is carefully thought out for max sales. Maybe they just don't sell well.

stampwithdiane 04-17-2008 02:19 PM

I have nightmares about the retirement of Lovely as a Tree and Sincere Salutations -- my two all-time favorite sets. Simply said, wild rose noble deer and wildlife reserve are other sets that I like and am afraid might retire.

As for what's to come, I would love to see more masculine sets and more realistic sets (I'm not really into the doodles or the double line stiff or the whimsey -- I really much prefer the realistic sets or solids). I would also like to see a good 2-step stamping set like serene sunflower that does not have to be lined up precisely with a SMAJ. Like I said before, I love Wild Rose, but I won't stamp with that sat without my SMAJ.

Last but not least I'd love a return of "themed" sets. Things that are useful for a hairdresser or a cheerleader or a scout leader. Maybe a set that has images of different after school activities (drama, choir, yearbook, etc.) for teens? And some cards, motorcycles, airplanes, etc. Also I'd love to see a realistic looking set with a bunch of different church styles -- from a cathedral to a wooden country church to maybe an alpine log cabin church, whatever -- just a bunch of different looks. I think those would make lovely cards for so many occasions -- weddings, baptisms, Easter, Christmas, etc.

I guess overall fewer generic flower sets and more realistic purpose-specific sets.

TeeGeeDee 04-17-2008 02:26 PM

I remember a past mini had a "set" where you'd choose x number of images. I would love something like this to be offered with sentiments. Actually, I'd like a couple like this so there is a wide variety of fonts (even if they are for the same type of sentiment). I might not want 3 get-well sentiments but I would want 2 so I have a choice.

I would love a realistic cat set or two. I also love sunflowers, dragonflies and butterflies so any new sets with these images would be welcome.

Most of the cards I make need to be masculine so new sets that work for adult males would be great but I also need some for teens and toddlers.

I'm sure there's more I want but these are what come immediately to mind.

Great thread!

StampingShawn 04-17-2008 02:28 PM

Not really sure what will go as I always get it wrong when I try to guess. I thought Greetings Galore would have gone a long time ago. It's actually starting to grow on me, so I hope it goes away before I'm sucked into buying it.:)

I would love to see more of the sets that have scenes like Winter Wonderland, Country Pleasures, or Changing Seasons. I think with the new Copic craze, there is just so much potential for some really great sets to color.

Stampinpetra 04-18-2008 09:31 AM

I have not done unmounted yet. but with the new sets in the mini's comming punched out maybe they will start doing the new sets in the new catty that way. It seams that it would help in the unmounted area. And it would be nice for them to offer them with or without wood. They use to offer foam or wood mounted until they went to all wood. We can only wait and see!

ceramics 04-18-2008 09:43 AM

I am not in love with the new sports stamp sets. Please retire them and get more sports and nicer sport stamp designs!!!!!!!!!!!!!

ceramics 04-18-2008 09:46 AM

Would also like to see more stamps with sayings on them for the inside of cards.
or for the outside of the cards so they could be the highlight of the front. Not one liners but nice sayings. Timeless sayings.

StampinByDiane 04-18-2008 10:05 AM

I always look forward to this thread every catalog and agree with the sets that so many of you have hoped will stay and some that will go.

On the Dog and Cat set I think the problem they run into in trying to decide what kind of set to use is the huge variety of real life cats and dogs. There seems to be a fine line on the whismical stamps between being great, like BOW WOW was and awful like this years dog entry was. I'm a huge dog lover and I know when it comes to "real life" dog images I seldom buy them for card making because when it is real life I want it to LOOK like my dogs and my dogs are mostly mutts so hard to match them........LOL Also, I don't want to buy a set say with a "real life" type image of a cocker spaniel in it when I don't have a cocker spaniel and don't have any friends who do! This is just my observation and opinion I may be way off the mark but it is how I look at dog sets. I just want a happy medium like the BOW WOW set or even Canine Capers was pretty good or they could take a lesson from Whipper Snapper in their design, WS has great animal stamps, JMHO.

Keep the posts coming like I said I love these threads!
Diane

I'd love to see a set with vintage guitars (like the classic convertibles or truck sets from the past). Something with a rock n roll theme. This set would be so awesome for teen cards, and it would work for both guys and gals, too. (yes, I've already suggested it to SU!).

Absolutely!!! We are not a family of outdoorsmen or jocks. We are all music lovers, with several talented guitar players blessing our clan. I've used Jazzed Up to within an inch of it's life and would LOVE a vintage music set!

Oh, I agree this would be a great set especially with the Guitar Hero craze. Even "virtual" musicians would love cards made with a set like this! I think I will shoot off an email to SU.

The demos that went on the cruise got a set from the upcoming catalogue that is die cut. It's been all over a bunch of blogs -- an owl set if I recall. I'm guessing that all new sets will be die cut, but returning ones will still be on a sheet to cut.

Now I'm just guessing!

I remember that - they called it a buffet or something. That would be a perfect idea for sentiments. Or at least offer them in smaller sets of 4 instead of the larger sets.

flamingolady 04-18-2008 04:13 PM

I would like to see more sentiments for the inside of cards, for all occasions. When I buy a mass market card, it's usually for the inside sentiment and not what's on the outside. I would also like to see more masuline designs.

I agree! I love stamp sets like Cheery Chat that gave you a sentiment for the front of the card, and a corresponding message to put inside as well.

Scrappy Kathy 04-18-2008 05:49 PM

More realistic for me, scenic sets like meadows, waterfalls, mountain tops, tropical scenes, realistic song birds, realistic tropical birds, realistic insects (butterflies, dragonflies, bees etc.). I like the idea of churchs in different settings. Cottages with flower gardens and puffy clouds in the sky. Detail flowers with wildlife and insects to watercolor. Love anything hummingbird and bluebird. Now I have my mouth watering for new stamps, can't wait to see what they come up with, hope I'm not disappointed like this year. Even I can draw better than some of those new stamps set.

SheilaKyles 04-18-2008 06:22 PM

ANYTHING BUT MORE FLOWERS. (yes, that was supposed to be in caps)

shastess 04-18-2008 06:46 PM

I don't much care what retires as I'm not a demo - actually I like it when stuff retires so I can get it cheaper on BST!!!!

I want a realistic police set! Ala Fire Brigade but Police stuff - could have a hat, badge, car, dog, cuffs, gun, officer, so many things!

Maryrose, this sounds like an awesome idea to me!!! What great guy cards this would be for me!!!

Circles can go as far as I'm concerned. I have some and don't need more. Stick figures, and one line drawings won't be missed by me either. I'm ready for some *real art* if you KWIM!! REalistic, vintage, something more classic and not so fadish and shortlived in the style. Other companies are handling the silly things like stick-armed ladies and headlessness, so I don't think SU needs to follow that trend.

eured99 04-20-2008 11:40 AM

New Stamp Ideas

I really like the guitar idea--that could work on so many levels. Personally, I'm a little weary of flowers per se. I have three grandsons and am surrounded by males in my family and friend arena. I'd love, love, love some more masculine stamp sets--some in graceful settings, like the fisherman in the fly fishing set. I'd also love to have sentiments for the inside of cards--so the fonts would match the outside. So many great ideas here. I'm not a demo, but I am a customer, and these are the kinds of sets I would buy in a minute. Dianne

jessthenurse 04-20-2008 01:30 PM

I'd like another really, really good little boy set. There are several sets that could be for little girls. Yes, I know Bugs & Kisses, Wild About You, and Ahoy, Matey could all be considered "boy" sets but I'd still like to see a really good one that Toy Box or Little Boys hit the catty this year.
