Default What old supplies have you found new enthusiasm for using?

Since so many of us at SCS have big stashes of stuff, I've been wondering how people use all those supplies. Some people just collect, I know, but I try hard to use everything I buy and still end up with stuff that sits around for a long time. What do you do to revitalize your interest in older supplies?

Recently, I watched a video on Hero Arts website showing the rock and roll technique. Julie used it on her blog recently, too. I am NOT a technique junky, but that seemed easy enough, so I pulled out my ColorBox petal point sets (I have 7 sets that have been languishing virtually untouched for over five years....). I used to emboss all the time and saw them as useful for embossing as the ink takes so long to dry.

Well, on PTI's cs, the inks dry pretty fast, the ink colors are so rich and vibrant, and almost every petal is still juicy. I'm actually excited about them now, and really impressed that they are still juicy, LOL!

What about you? Please share your ideas for resurrecting old supplies.

My old paper.

I have tons of miscellaneous paper by many, many companies that has been cluttering up my stamping space. I finally got inspired and combined all the old paper AND old cardstock together by color families, instead of having the cardstock separate from the regular papers.

I now treat all of it as just paper, and exclusively use Stampin Up! cardstock for my base for all my cards. The old miscellaneous cardstock was so variable in weight that it was usually a headache to work with. Now that it is all just being used as paper, I am amazed.

Somehow it is actually working! Woo hoo!

What a great idea! I've used my embellies more since I organized them by color (VBGYOR, or whatever that acronym is, LOL!). I can definitely see how that would work with pp and cs, too!

I've started to use all my little embellishments, Amuse Twinkles, self adhesive pearls, brads, etc. What am I saving these for?

This is interesting as I have just been doing crafting and using old stuff!! i think that what's happening is that new ways of using old stuff has reinvigorated our stash. Instead of loads of rubbishsy stuff, we have vintage items that are fab..and we can do the..'I've done this for years' thing too!

For me it's been punches, my pricking tool and my paper ribbler which I haven't used yet but next project will.

Having said all the above, I STILL can't work out anything useful to do with all my peeloffs (bought when a newbie and told that you can't craft without them) other than the bin or a bonfire. I LOATHE them.

I'm not going to buy any patterned paper from the new SU catty until I've used up most of what I have. I still have some from more than two years ago that matched the Looks Like Spring set, and I still have some (though not a lot) of the paper that was in a winter mini a couple years ago, the one that has Cool Carribbean on it. I also have a huge stash of cool caribbean cardstock so I might as well use all of this up.

I've also been trying to use some of my huge supply of eyelets on my scrapbook pages. I will not buy any more brads until this situation is under control.

Are peeloffs another term for stickers? I have entirely too many stickers, and have been slowly chipping away at them by using them to decorate the insides of cards. It's amazing how much more sophisticated a crappy sticker can look if you cut part of it off and then line up the edge of it with the edge of your paper. And if you make cards for five and ten year-olds, they're still at the age when they think stickers are the most amazing thing ever and will love cards with them on the inside!!

O - good point. I want the vanilla, but my pewter has hardly been touched.

I use my Sizzix all the time now that I've discovered Cuttlebug folders. I love how they add texture and design to plain cardstock!

ETA  Guess that's a tool and not technically a "supply".

My I-Kan-Dee chalk sets. I loved them when I first got them, and then I hated them. They became too messy and I just put them aside. But then I brought them out again this year and used better, proper paper (PTI!) and some of the sets just popped - I'm happy all over again with my *new* toys, lol! They look like this: http://www.scrapbookexpress.com/peinch

Due to a wonderful thread about how to make Prima Flowers, I have pulled out my flower punches again. :p I was getting ready to sell them but now I am using them!

Eyelets. I have so many and I hardly ever used them since brads came along.

Recently, I have also used some fibers on a card. It was always strange to me that the fiber rage never lasted very long but the ribbon craze has been going strong for several years.

I've been using chipboard more and more lately. When it first came out and was really all the rage (I realize it's still pretty popular), I picked up so many different kinds. As a cardmaker, I just never used the stuff, but I've been pulling it out lately and having a blast covering it with inks, papers, glitter, and flock. It makes a great addition to cards.

I've also just been going through my stuff and really evaluating ways to use older embellishments and papers I had to have. If I had to have it so badly, why haven't I used it? Once you come to terms with that, you start to look at your supplies a lot differently. I have found that for some of these older, maybe not so trendy supplies, it's fun to just sit down and be inspired by them.

My fibers and hemp! With the post office being SO INCREDIBLY picky about "bumps" in envelopes, I've given up ribbon knots and bows and gone back to the fiber/hemp and eyelets (the postal police have never said anything about those).

Ooooo...I made a card with eyelets yesterday. I hadn't used them in ages!

Wow, people sure are finding lots of old stuff to use...eyelets. Hmm. I've got hundreds of the little things. Perhaps I should dig them out and use them again!

Buttons. I've got tons of them, some older than my daughter (and she's in college) lol. So glad they're in style now for cardmaking...when I remember to dig them out and actually use them! And my paper crimper - I find that I'm using it again after quite a few years of neglect. Interesting thread!!

Decorative edge scissors and crimper. I have 3 little girls and they continually inspire me with their creations. Nothing in my stash is outdated from their perspectives, so I get to see it all through their fresh eyes!

Shape punches! My 3 year old DD loves them! She punches paper while I use all my other fun stuff. (Ok, so technically, I'm using her, to use them, but it works for both of us and she thinks she's "working" with mom!)

Wow! Great question and a lot of inspiration in the answers! I think I should use some eyelets soon. Oh and I just started using my Quickutz-fonts again.

I would have to say my old sizzix dies. They are coming out with so many new fresh sizzix dies that my old sizzix dies pair with nicely with. I am also using up the old creative memories paper that I bought way to many of when I was a consultant. Come to think of it I ran across some old owl die-cuts in my stash and used them. It's sometimes funny how old can be the new hot trend. LOL

I have actually started to use everything. I know that sound like a lie because we are known to stock pile supplies and I have done that. But this summer I got to thinking why am I saving it - for what. If I don't use the things I purchased and loved (that is why I bought them) now - I many never get a chance to use them. SO I have limited myself as to what I purchase now until I see that something is low or absolutely new and I can't use something I already have instead.
I usually find it is the layout I love or the color combination and can subsitute stuff for what I have and still love it.
Hope that makes sense.

Great thread! I need to be inspired and use some eyelets. I have the crop-a-dile and have not used it nearly enough to pay for it. I was inspired the other day to use some dp that I have had forever...I even used the '07 in colors. I was so proud! But I have gobs of paper that I had to have (Basic Grey is sooo pretty) and now it is just collecting dust.

Same here. I went chalk crazy and bought every Pebbles set they make, all the stencil sets and the eraser. I think I used them maybe twice, and they are just sitting in my studio on the shelf. Last month though, I used them to make baby shower invites, and now I'm chalk crazy again. I'm also determined to start using more eyelets and brads. I keep buying them, but I don't use them for some reason.

Spectrum pads. I took a couple of classes at Archiver's this summer that used spectrum pads and brayers. Acetate also - love it as an accent on a card.

I have gotten out my load of Sizzix dies and sizzliets as well as the alphas with the intentionn of using them in my new bigshot. Gonna sell the sizzix along with a few dies and embossing folders for $40.00 somewhere.
Blessings.

Eyelets. I never used to use them because of the noise when setting them. My Silent Setter (and then the Crop-a-Dile) changed that.

I'm not using them as much as brads, but at least, now I'm using them.
