I have a TV going most times so it isn't too quiet in my basement hideaway.

If I'm listening to music, I enjoy easy listening stuff, older and newer stuff, just so long as it isn't too twangy country stuff or headbanging heavy metal. I listen to a radio at work otherwise it is way too quiet in my office. My son listens to a hard rock station on or morning commute and I find that way too hard on the head that early in the morning. My hubby likes anything country and the more twang in it, the better. I get tired of the "I kicked my dog, killed my cat, and my wife left me" music with banjos and to much guitar twang.

I don't mind music playing but I tend to like it playing lower than most. I like to be able to carry on a conversation in the car and I'm forever turning the music lower and hubby is forever turning it up higher. I rule the car though whether I'm driving or the passenger LOL!

Fun thread! I'm all about The Decemberists. Their newest album, The King is Dead, is wonderful but my all-time favorite album is The Hazards of Love. It really rocks!

I usually listen to self care by Mac Miller while creating. Mac Miller was a great artist but sadly left us so early. I still remember when his swimming album was released I was so excited I bought its self care phone case and room decor posters to celebrate its arrival. I still cant believe he is no more with us. In such a short span of time he made his name in the field of rap music.. Here is my favourite song of him.

Most of the time I do my craft in silence, but if I am listening to something it is definitely Adele or Coldplay.

This was a fun thread to see again. I read my response and it was boring, lol. Back then my son was suffering so quiet was peaceful. I also didn't have my own room back then. I typed the word son without bawling. Ladies, it is progress. I am proud of it.

2021 answer- A lot of rock, pop, contemporary. I love to listen to soundtracks. I listen to YouTube a lot. During lockdown I bought a CD Player. Can you believe they are still popular? They even make cute cases for them. I have been building my music collection again. I have been listening to a lot of CD's.

My DH has been teasing me about listening to so much Ricky Martin lately, lol. I was suppose to see him in concert this year. Still not comfortable going to concerts so I have been watching clips on his YouTube channel.

It depends on the mood I'm in. On Spotify I have these playlists that I listen to when creating:
Christian, rock/pop, classical, country, jazz or oldies

In the car, I listen to only Christian music.  But in my craft room, it's classic country...Waylon and Willie, Charley Pride, Mac Davis, Kenny Rogers, Kenny and Dolly, George Jones, Tammy Wynette...the classics!  LOL

What a fun question! I have a CD player with about 150 cds in it. It is set to “ shuffle”, so I never know what will come up next. It is heavy on classic country (Patsy Cline, Willie, etc), Garth, Motown, classic rock (nothing newer than 70’s), Dean Martin, Jimmy Buffett….it is just a wonderful hodgepodge and makes me happy. I do have to pause it, however, when I am forced to think harder than usual. You know, math for measuring, or trying to get the right sentiment for a card.

I started scrapbooking when my mom and dad died within 4 months of each other. I wanted to stay connected some how. When I'm crafting I have my moms old time country and Christian records. She played them every Sunday. I love all the above!!!

SO fun to read everyone's responses. Seems like we have a lot of classic rockers here  I tend to mix it up depending on what's going on around me. Most often, I just play my music on shuffle. Sometimes, I'll put music videos on YouTube instead. It's actually a fun way to come across new-to-me music.

When I first saw this thread (a little while ago), I didn't catch that the first post was 2011... not 2021. So fun that some of the original posters are still here

How times have changed in the 10 years since the beginning of this thread. I cannot imagine having talk radio or cable news on now while I make cards. It is Coffeehouse music or nothing. Sometimes when I get to the rote part of a series of cards I can listen to a book on my phone, but usually nothing beats peace and quiet.

If you're weird, Diane, then I'm weird too as I listen to recorded books as well. Either that or Canada's CBC radio (the equivalent of your NPR).

Beside old time country and Christian classic 1960-1970 classic rock is a must. You can't beat old time records.

I subscribe to Spotify. I have 78 playlists. They contain everything from Motown, to classical, to heavy metal, to classic rock/blues.
My go to genres are blues/rock, and classical.
There is very little music I don't like and I'm very glad I have such eclectic taste in music.

Hi everyone! I'm a Bluegrass music loving girl. Several friends are in national and local bands, That being said, there is also Neil Diamond, John Denver, Beach boys, Elvis, Beatles, some country, and even a bit of Jefferson Airplane, White Rabbit is my favorite of what they do. Diverse group of artists to be true. I'm a bit like stacylovespaper...my playlist, I know by heart, so i sing along and crank up the sound. Early morning around 5 listen to the daily local and world news, and then it's my faves!

How fun to see this thread resurrected!

My answer 10 years ago of 70's and 80's music on the music channels still sticks except now I'm leaning more towards the 70's.

I also like having sports on in the background if I'm not listening to music.

I, too am listening to CBC radio (Canadian Broadcasting Corporation) when I'm crafting. If not, it will likely be mellow classical, blues or reggae. But if I need energy for something like housework, I crank up the volume and throw on an entirely different type of music.

I love reading all the answers. This is a fun thread. The Classic Rock made me laugh. It showed my generation. You were all talking about Classic Rock. I thought to myself Guns n Roses & Nirvana, ROFL! You all meant bands like Fleetwood Mac, CCR, & Jefferson Airplane. I thought so many of us are listening to Guns n Roses, lol. I am listening to Guns n Roses, lol.

I do like Classic Rock too. Stevie Nick's is the ultimate Goddess. Queen was everything.

No music at all. Everything I hear has a memory attached and that's distracting for me. I watch TV or streaming movies or listen to audio books. My TV and computer are in my craft room.

Heart Very eclectic

I'm a Boomer with varied tastes. Love any kind of upbeat music while I'm crafting...from Mozart to flamenco to Mongolian throat singing to British Invasion. Metallica, Disturbed, and Alice In Chains. Irish folk music and Inca flute.

Sorry, I'm going to veer slightly off topic here (from crafting to specific music) but I have to ask: Mongolian throat music - are you listening to The Hu? I LOVE them! If not who else should I be checking out?

I love listening to up-tempo music—I think it energizes my crafty mojo. I’ll sing along to Beatles, Beach Boys, and pretty much anything 60s through 80s. So fun!

Yes! The Hu! Can anything beat Wolf Totem? Or The Gereg? There are several traditional singers, whose names I can’t pronounce properly (Batzorig Vaanchig, for example) that are also fabulous. I get so energized listening to the Hu while I’m making cards, especially if I’m doing a repetitive task, like die cutting.

I listen to a huge variety of music while stamping. Mostly stuff without lyrics like modern classical and ambient music. A particular favourite album of mine for getting into a stamping groove is Stars of the Lid - And Their Refinement of the Decline

I listen to either K-LOVE radio or classical/instrumental music. I'm a housewife/SAHM but my two older girls are away at college and my youngest a junior in high school, so I spend a lot of time alone during the day. The DJs on K-LOVE feel like friends to me and I often find myself talking to the radio lol. I get distracted by the TV and music that's too "noticeable" and that's why I love listening to classical music while crafting; it fades in to the background. Plus, I find it soothing. I want a peaceful, quiet mood when I craft, not energetic and upbeat.

You described perfectly the type of music I always liked to listen to when studying and painting. When crafting I can listen to just about anything I guess depending on my mood.

How true! For years I listened to NPR most of the time in my craft room. I need a serious break from the "news".

For me now, I like classic rock, mid-'60's thru some '80's. But depending on my mood, I might have on Springsteen, the Stones, Bob Seeger, rockers like that. Or if I'm wanting something more quiet, I love Paul Simon, Neil Young, James Taylor, Linda Ronstadt... But I also get into Motown moods and I never tire of Van Morrison. I have pretty broad musical taste. I love classical, but never when I'm crafting. I tend to want up-beat music that gets me dancing around the room : )
Fun to see this thread revived!

yes, back then I listened to CDs now I listen to Spotify. I really like how I can download and save all the music that I like and categorize it into playlists that suit my moods.

I tend to play Pandora on my phone. I can't listen to something like podcasts or I will get distracted, drinks will spill, and so on.

Beatles, Pink Floyd, Led Zep, Fleetwood, Springsteen...Celine, Adele, it is a mixed bag.....or 50s and 60s oldies...motown...I need it to stay light.

Here's a good one I bet a lot of people will like....

I had to look this ensemble up. Wow! That is incredibly mellow music. I could fall asleep to it. Totally calming. It made me laugh because it's the opposite of what I listen to when crafting. Reading the music description, before I listened, I wasn't sure I would like it. I do! Possibly not when I'm crafting, but it's very interesting music. Thks for broadening my horizons.
