Default removing rubber to trim

Hi fellow stampers, I purchased a used set that wasn't trimmed at all. Can I safely remove the rubber and trim it? If so any suggestions on how to do this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for any help you can give me.

Peggy, I have never tried to pull a stamp off that has been mounted, I bet it wouldn't work well. I would take an exacto knife and cut the rubber off the edges at least. You may not get as much detail as if you trimmed them prior to mounting, but at least you could reduce the edges and corners this way. HTH

Hi, I also would not pull it off the block, but use a sharp knife and trim around the image, at least by cutting some of it off, you have less of a chance of a "shadow"

You can also just make sure to check it before stamping on your project to make sure you didnt get ink where you dont want it. Or even ink that set with markers, so you dont have to worry at all, and still get a great look!

Good luck!

Put it into the microwave for about 10 seconds - that will warm the glue that keeps the rubber/foam attached to the wood block. Carefully separate them - if they don't separate, cook them a few seconds longer.
You can then use your rubber/craft scissors to trim them appropriately.

I have done this before (yesterday, in fact). Many of my first purchases were not trimmed well - and I had to fix them!

Default Removing Rubber to Trim

YES you can do it very easily! Take the stamp - rubber side up and put in your microwave for about 10 seconds to warm up the adhesive. Take it out and see if you can lift it slowly and easily - you may need to put it back in for 10 more seconds, then trim and put back on the block -- the adhesive will be very sticky still. I do it all the time for sets I mounted way back when - and for customers who have mounted stamps upside-down or forgot to trim - Never had a mishap...works like a charm!

I've done this before if it's a large stamp as you peel it off it may cool stop and put it back into the microwave a little longer if you force it it can rip the foam pad. It worked great just reapplied it back after trimming.

I was just going to ask this question myself! I bought the Star Santa set at a rummage for $7 and didn't notice that it had never been trimmed until I got it home... Thanks for the tips ladies!

Thanks to all the advice. I cooked them yesterday and it worked great. No more stray ink. Love this site for things like this.
