What little stocking stuffers can I make for a craft fair?
 

I have had bad luck at the last 2 fairs I participated in - only sold little mint spiders (they were adorable - cased from here, of course) even though I had made tons of cute cards ----- now I am trying my hand one last time - I have a few leftover goodies from the previous sales - but it's all stuff that didn't sell - what would be the equivalent of the Halloween spiders that would be fast and easy to make and would be CHEAP????????????? I do not want to spend a lot of effort since my last 2 fairs were so discouraging - but I did make a commitment to do this one last one. . . . What ideas do you lovely ladies have for me????????????

I have made a basket full of "Christmas spiders". I have printed out the Christmas spider story and will have that for people to read if interested. I have also filled tins of chocolate truffles with the belly band around them, gift tags, mini notebooks covered with cs and stamped, gift card holders, ornaments, etc. I always have good luck with my cards so hoping that will still hold true. My last fair is this Sat. so we will see what happens! Good luck with yours.

All of those items sound good - I didn't see any in your gallery though - any pictures and what is the spider story?????? Sounds as if it just might be what I'm looking for!!

I would not be doing this next fair if there was a fee involved - it is my last attempt ----- would love to see your tins with truffles and spiders. . .

I haven't taken pictures yet but usually take them after I set up. Google for the Christmas spider story and you will find that. My hubby did the spiders in black scalloped circles with red and black legs (punched with the corner photo punch), put wiggly eyes on them with the peppermint patty in the middle. The tins have a clear top and holds Hershey truffles wrapped in Xmas cs with the belly band around them and a saying punched out and put on top of the belly band. I think I have seen those here on SCS. If I get pictures made this week I will send you a notice so you can see them but I am working three days so don't know if I will get it done.

Thanks Nana - and yeah, I have all of the ingredients to make book thongs - planned on making them for everyone in my book club - so might get busy with those.

Poop sells really well - yep, last year I sold almost a $100 of reindeer and snowman poop at a craft fair. It only costs about 15 cents to make and I sold each for a $1.00. Keep the packaging real simple so you don't sepnd too much time and money on making them.

How about Reindeer Dust ? My ds got some from his preschool teachers and loved it. Just do remember not to use glitter where animals may eat it.

Your projects are lovely - especially like your tins

Sugar crystals from the cake decorating section are a great glitter substitute, and are completely safe should any kids or animals get curious and try to take a taste.

I did a craft fair the weekend before Thanksgiving...

so what sold well was
individual cards - $2.50 each or 5 for $10 - I was surprised how many sold - many more than previous years - lots of birthday and thank yous

Decorated Peppermint patties - we had 2 different types - a Holiday one with 4 per package with a top note die topper ($2) - you can see them HERE - and ones with 3 in a small cello bag with some crinkle filler - those were mainly Birthday, Thanksgiving, New Year themed ($1.50)- we also had individual ones available for .50 each or 3 for $1

Monogrammed checkbook covers ($4) - similar to these in my gallery - HERE monogrammed while they waited - I sold 6 of those - not bad considering I only had 10 to begin with.

Girl Scout Ornaments & Candles ($4) - these were my uplines - using the retired SU scouting set - she sold a fair amount of those

Chocolate dipped hot chocolate spoons ($4) packaged 3 together with a gift tag - now I had wanted to sell them separately for $1.50 each or 3 for $3 but the organizers said they were competing with the bake sale - so i had to put them together and add a stamped tag...I did sell out of them although next year I think i will do 2 per group for $3

Holiday Ornaments ($2) - where it is on the acetate inside the glass bulb - I had some stamped with a snowflake saying and my upline had some done with the rubons

some of the other things we had that we sold a few of (i.e. we came home with more than what we sold)

Prepackaged Card Sets ($10)

Decorated Clipboards ($12 for a set that included a photo clip and pen) - last year I sold out of them - these year I sold 4.

Photo clips ($1.50) - I was surprised last year they sold like hotcakes

Rectangle coaster clipboards ($2.50) - first year with these - sold a few but I thought I would have sold more...

Reindeer Food ($1.50) -used oatmeal, colored sugar crystals and white suger - last year I sold out of them (made about 40 of them)...this year I sold maybe 15 or so packets..next year i think I will do a little less per package and charge $1

Chocolate holders ($1.50) - my upline even made her own paper for local schools to use but not too many people bit

Chocolate coffee flavor spoons ($4) - 3 different flavors packaged - cinnimon, peppermint, butterscotch

A good rule of thumb is to only make items that you can give away or use as gifts during the holiday season...everything that is left over will get used as a gift at some point during the holiday season....my husband already claimed dibs on the coffee spoons for his co-workers...and the reindeer food will go to my daughters classes...the teachers will get the decorated clipboards and the photo clips and rectangle coasters will be perfect little gifts for my co-workers...

What didn't sell at all - holiday cards....quite frankly I don't think you can compete with cheapo boxed cards at holiday time...most people have a decent amount of cards if they are sending so $10 for 5 cards is a little cost prohibitive for most people...but not for birthday and thank you I guess

I have always liked the magnetic bookmarkers, flip over a page and thin
magnetic that sticks when attached to a page, NEVER loose
them and economical to make. Guess I am not aware of what book thongs are...
