Default What goes with these colours?

Okay, have been stampin' up a storm over the last week, but I've noticed there are some colours I haven't even touched, let alone used. I just can't get inspired by:

1. Bravo Burgundy - don't like it, it's dark and gloomy (which I normally like) but it just seems so 80s to me. Can't find anything to go with it apart from Kraft and Artichoke... and even then I wished I'd used Ruby Red instead.

2. Glorious Green - "glorious"?????????? I rest my case. It's so harsh and I know it's supposed to go with Real Red but it's just to "in yer face" for Christmas. Celery is so much more gentle and nice.

3. Taken With Teal - every time I try to use this, I decide that Tempting Turquoise or, even better, Cool Caribbean will work soooooo much better. Convince me otherwise please!

4. Blush Blossom - too pale and wishy-washy. What will liven it up?

Ideas please! Thanks in advance.

Helen

I'd check out the old color challenges...they always help me when I'm stumped.

For Bravo Burgundy, I like the metallics; try copper or silver
For Glorious Green, try Only Orange or YoYo Yellow
For Taken with Teal, try Night of Navy
For Blush Blossom, try Creamy Caramel or Sage Shadow

I saw a beautiful card made with Burgundy, Banana, and Chocolate Chip. I'm sorry that I can't remember who made it, but it's in the gallery under Simple Sketches.

Default Try the Color Coach

I use it whenever I want to work with a "new" color. Bravo Burgundy looks great with Apricot Appeal. I have an example off that in my gallery. Glorious Green looks great with Brilliant Blue. I haven't worked much with Taken with Teal or Blush Blossom so I don't have any suggestions for you on them, but you can never go wrong with the Color Coach suggestions.

Another option if you don't have the Color Coach is to try the color combination website one of the people on SCS made. It has tons of cool color combinations to try. I don't recall what thread the link was posted in, but if you do a search you should find it.

I like to use Blush Blossom with Pretty in Pink - very soft and girly. I saw another stamper (sorry, don't remember who) - that used Creamy Caramel with Blush Blossom and it was so awesome! I want to try that next.

I like Bravo Burgundy with different shades of brown - it's great for masculine cards too.

Not a fan of Glorious Green or Taken with Teal though....

Well, I'm pretty daring in using colors and use everything, so I won't give you any combos, but you could do a gallery search for a particular color and see how others have used it to get some great ideas.

I won't be much help with some of the colors you listed because I'm in the same rut - I have yet to use Bravo Burgundy. Loved baroque burgundy however. But one of the colors you listed, taken with teal, I used rose red and lovely lilac with it once and loved how it looked. I also like so saffron with teal.

I haven't used blush blossom much but I do like how it looks with always artichoke.

I love the color glorious green but I agree, it doesn't go with much. I used it with creamy caramel once and liked the result. Mostly I've used it in scrapbooking with the other primary colors - real red, brilliant blue and yoyo yellow. HTH.

I made a scrapbook page using bravo burgundy and so saffron. The page came out great and I have had many compliments on it.

Have you tried it with Sahara Sand? I have tried some of the darker Rich Regals with Saraha Sand and a metallic and they looked pretty nice. HTH.

Some of my favorite color combos is with blush blossom (and I don't like the color by itself) - blush, always artichoke, and close to cocoa; blush, sage shadow, chocolate chip, pretty in pink. I did a layout yesterday with taken with teal, tempting turquoise, real red, and certainly celery. I do like using the color coach and Laura's website for color combinations. But, I agree. Glorious Green is not very glorious. I am not sure I've ever used that color.

I just made a card for the no layers challenge using Bravo Burgandy. I know I said it was Baroque, but it's really Bravo. I used Basic Brown, Bashful Blue, and Bravo Burgandy. You can use mustard or the new in color yellow. old olive, pink.

Not sure about Glorious Green. I don't have that cardstock and have only used my ink pad once.

Teal: Try one of the purples, either the eggplant or the lavender lace., Pink, Gold, Silver, teal and caribbean blue, barely banana, old olive, brown. orange, bashful blue

Blush Blossom??? don't have that one either.

I have written down color combos from all sorts of items (purses, clothing, etc.). Also, you can use the web site that someone posted. It really gives some crazy combos that actually look nice together.

No edit...

One of the color challenges uses Bravo with Pretty in Pink. I did that on one card in my gallery. It looked pretty together. Also, certainly celery works with it. Saffron would work also.

LOL! I do that, too - I found loads of ideas when I was looking for paint at www.dulux.co.uk. Thanks for your ideas - am a bit stamped out at the moment, but I'm saving all these combinations to try when I'm back in the groove!

Wow! Loads of colour combos for me to try - I've written them all down and will be having a go. I did actually make a card with burgundy today - I forced myself even though I wanted to use Ruby Red. I used Burgundy, Old Olive and a tiny bit of Barely Banana (which I ended up distressing with So Saffron). I stamped and distressed the olive background with Sahara Sand and Always Artichoke - it was a pretty dirty card in the end!!!! Will try to post it in the next few days.

These may already be here, but I have to be auick before DD finishes eating (Daddy's not home, so we girls are fending for ourselves )

Burgundy: So Saffron, metallics are nice too, ballet blue...

Teal: old olive, eggplant (the 3 were a color challenge Surprisingly likeable!) or with chocolate chip...there's one in my gallery with that.

Glorious Green and Blusk Blossom I have a tough time with too, but perhaps I'll take some advice from this thread now that I'm subscribed and work it!

Good luck!

Ironically, the giraffe card was inspired by a thread which was about challenging ourselves to use colors which we find we don't like very much. I thought it would be fitting to add it here.

I really don't like glorious green at all. I had the ink pad and I used it on a few christmas cards, and I thought it looked like it had a blue tint. But other that that one, I pretty much like all of the greens.

Default Color "issues"

I tended to shy away from teal also until I forced myself to do it....I used Cocoa, Celery and Brocade with it...loved the card. Now I tend to pick Teal over Turquoise when I can swing it.

I also had a hard time with Burgandy, but I had bought some striped ribbon from Michael's that had it paired with Pixie Pink and Green Galore....WOW! What a great birthday card it made with FUN WITH SHAPES, IT'S YOUR BIRTHDAY and the HAPPY BIRTHDAY TAG PUNCH.

I don't know that I'll ever be able to use Glorious Green....it's blah to me....pass right by it every time.

I use So Saffron with Bravo Burgundy. It's subtle colors balances out the punch of the Burgundy color. I like it.

Here's my first effort with Burgundy - teamed with Old Olive and Barely Banana (although it's more Saffron after being distressed). http:////www.splitcoaststampers.com/...46143&cat=6011

Will try some more of your combos when I get chance!

On a scrapbook page last night I used glorious green with night of navy and white - because my son had a shirt on in the pic that was those colors. I really liked that combo together. HTH

Default Combinations compiled...

Here's a list of all the colour combinations offered so far. There are LOADS for Burgundy - who knew it was so popular!? Glorious Green is lagging far, far behind - could this be SU's new least popular colour, taking over where Mint Melody left off?

Thanks again for all the suggestions - I'm definitely going to try some of them! Here's the list:

What goes with these colours?

Bravo Burgundy:
Metallics eg, copper, silver

Again with the example of gable green, some examples list gable green first and in others it might appear 3rd on the list.
