I very rarely put sentiments on my cards, almost never on the outside.
I normally just handwrite something on the inside when I decide who the card is for.
This week I just bought my first set of sentiments because I've been wanting to put some on my cards! But I don't do a lot of multi-purpose cards, either. Mine are usually quite specific, or at least I want them to be.
I have a lot of sentiment stamps, and use computer-generated sentiments too, it's just that a lot of the time I don't think they belong on the front of the card.I like them better tucked away on the inside, along with a hand-written message. However, for selling cards it definitely helps to have something specific on the front, so when my sis sold cards for me I had to change my style. For the sketch challenge this week, Roxie gave us the option to leave out the little sentiment placing, and on my first card I did, because there just wasn't anything I wanted to put there.
I have lots of sentiments and will use them on the front of a card...but not always. To me, it will depend on what I am stamping with ...the image...if it can tell the story without any aids...or if I want to keep the card to be multi purposeful.
I don't find that a card always NEEDS to have wording on the front.
I make most of my cards multi-purpose, but I always leave a spot somewhere for a sentiment when I'm actually ready to give the card. I always add a sentiment to the front before giving, but I never stamp a sentiment on the inside. Just a handwritten note there. Personally I find the phrases used inside cards tacky and impersonal. Even on the outside my sentiments are short and specific, ie, "thanks," "happy birthday," etc.
I almost NEVER use sentiments..and what's funny is about a year ago I went crazy with buying sentiment stamps cuz I was *****in' I didn't have any.. heheheh. still hardly ever use 'em.
I just typically make specifics for family on an as needed basis. Riley holding a Birthday cake is pretty self explanatory heheheheh and all the cards I make for the Troops I leave blank inside and out so they can add their own message.
I use sentiment stamps all the time but I do sell my cards so I agree with Sabrina that this helps quite a bit. I've gotten some great sets from Papertrey and Verve and use those ALL the time (especially PTI - I think I've pretty much gotten sentiments for all occasions by now!)
