Default square cards

For those of you who make square cards, what size do you most commonly make? 4.25, 4.5, 5 or other?

thanks
Nancy

I usually make at least 5 and then anywhere up to 5.5. A typical one, though? 5.25 x 5.25. HTH!

Do you make your own envelopes or can you buy them in the standard sizes?

Hmmm... I seem to have acquired a few different sizes of square envelopes over the years. I never make my own envelopes! (Me soooo lazy! ;) ) And sometimes, I'll just use an envelope created for a bigger greeting card (like the ones leftover from old Christmas cards?) and that way avoid having to pay extra postage for the square size. It might not look as elegant as a well-fitted square envelope, but it works!

When making square cards, I tend to make them 5.5" square. I have bought the envelopes, too, but I don't remember where. Sorry!

so if you make a 5.25 x 5.25 card, do you start out with 12 x 12 paper or just make it from 8.5 x 11? I was thinking 4.25 to get 2 cards out of the smaller size paper, but that does seem a little small for a card.

Subscribing because I like the look of square cards but I am "dimensionally challenged". :-)

If you put it in a regular envelope, you should be able to mail at regular cost, unless it's lumpy. I like square cards, but I hand them out. I do have some clear envelopes that I think are 5.5, so I guess I'm going with 5.25 cards.

I'll make 4.25" if I know it's going to get mailed. Hand-delivered I like 5.5" square since it's such a larger canvas to work with.
