What is the weirdest thing you have used on a card?
I used jelly beans one Easter on a card. A friend of mine has actually used real ground coffee beans that she glued on a small circle and then put a cut out stamped coffee cup on it, She also added whole coffee beans. That card smelled so good. :p
I put a used tea bag on a card to my sister once. It was her birthday card and it said "from one old bag to another..."
There was a thread a couple years ago about weird cards. There was one card that had a lot of people in an uproar - the creator put a tampon on the card. I can't remember what the sentiment was, but I thought it was funny, but of course, to each their own...
I've used birthday candles, sandpaper, orange extract mixed with embossing powder, cake decorating candies for part of a shaker card, and fabric from DS's jeans. If it stands still long enough, I can find a use for it.

I remember that. I'm trying to remember the poster and her blog because she had loads of cards in a similar ilk.
Coffee beans on an ATC, bottle caps turned into a fishing lure for a guy's birthday card, underwear elastic oh and...blood smears (I stabbed myself with a paper piercer) so I incorporated into the card (for my niece's hubby who is a policeman). I know that sounds ucky..but he thought it was funny!
I see her cards have gotten more "adult" (or even "crude") since I looked a couple years ago. Maybe all the negative comments some people made about them made her push the envelope even a little further to keep those people away. Has been known to happen...
the Quote was Who lit the fuse on your tampon!!! lol

This is AWESOME!! I have an SCS technique swap coming up and I'll try this for sure. Thanks to you and to Lydia for sharing this
Now for what sounds like a bizarre question, but here goes: do you have any idea if I can do this with nonfat/skim milk? What kind of milk did you use?

Sweetened condensed milk. I think I used a butterfly stamp stamped it in the milk and I used a heating gun to give it a brown look. ( it was some technique I saw in a stamping magazine a long awhile back)

hahaha! :o

I used dried green and yellow peas, oats, brown rice for the background of the card. I think it was for a SCS challenge. My son now eats meat again. Had a great laugh at the time!
I made this guy card for my neighbor who recently retired. It has a swordfish on it and I put fishing line in the mouth. Since the swordfish is an action image and looks like it's jumping out of the water, it's a neat add on. Coolest part of all is that SCS is now following me on Instagram! Very humbled and honored.

The owner of Stamps Away, Ali Reeve, regularly demonstrates on the create and craft tv channel here in the uk and she is often described as a womble (those not in the UK might have to google The Wombles). She uses all sorts of things on her cards including toilet paper, old drinks cans, and as a former infant school teacher, makes her own texture pastes using pva and cornflour, and experiments with everyday crafting stuff, like adding gloopy pva and then heating it so it all puffs up.

I tried that too.....then licked the stamp clean. LOL
BUT I might win the contest with these 2:
HORSE HAIR - mane hair braided on a horse card AND
Since I do Cowboy Mounted shooting, I've recently made cards using the primer ends of our blanks cut off the used shell - they sort of look like big brads.
I've also used laminate chips that I embellished as tags, toilet paper for a technique to look like paper clay, bottle caps, real sand, thin slices of anters, pheasant feathers (my brother gave me a whole skin) and smaller turkey feathers.
My greatest find was sheets of embossed looking paper that were between each sheet of metal roofing when we reroofed our house. I kept tons of it! I love reading all the neat things that the rest of you used! What imaginations!
I used my rag doll cat's fur on a stamped cat card
Haha I have Ragdoll fur on all my cards, when you have 5 fur seems to be everywhere.

I figured out how to print on a used dryer sheet- I ironed the sheet and then used removable Herma tape to stick it to my printer paper. Then I printed a photo on it. That came out awesome! Another thing I did was use gently and partially unwoven cheesecloth behind snowmen. And used coffee filers.
This is the most inspiring question and answer posting I have ever read! I am SO going to use many of these unusual items to embellish my cards...but I know I'll pass on that tampon..a little too obnoxious for me. Absolutely love that "old bag" idea! I've incorporated apricot pits, shoe laces, pieces of old shake roofing, metal springs, old burnt cake candles, fish tank gravel, and the plastic rings left from empty ATG tape rolls. Sounds like a bag of garbage!
I made a card for my son who loves to ride his dirt bike. I used gesso and brown paint (totally NOT unusual), but to make wheel tracks on the card I used one of my grandson's toy trucks and rolled it through the gesso mixture. Worked like a charm!

Do you havena picture of how you used the plastic rings?
I just glued them on with Glossy Accents. This one was a mini album entitled "It's A Guy Thing" with each page embellished with different guy stuff: ripped cardboard box pieces, dominoes, tickets, bent wires, burlap, brads, buttons, paper clips, twine and the recycled rings. Placement was at corners, just as you would use flowers for a feminine display. Sorry I can't show you a photo...not as computer savvy as everyone else...have no idea how to upload photos. You'll just have to take my word that it came out good enough to sell at a craft show.
Haven't read all the replies, but I used some screen material a few times. Also, I use wallpaper sometimes, from old sample books that were given to me.

Have you ever created a background on your card using celery? Gorgeous! Looks just like roses! Leave it together as it comes in a stalk, cut it, wrap tape around it to hold it together & ink it on your stamp pads & stamp on your card! I took the end of a smaller stalk & made some leaves! You can use your old stamp pads if you want to - it didn't seem to change my ink pads. Have fun!
