Default What to do with LIBRARY POCKETS?

This is probably a dumb question, BUT here goes...

I love the library card pockets I've seen on SCS lately, but what do you use them for?? Make a "card" insert for birthdays, etc.?? Put the pocket on the front of a card??

Maybe I'm just too practical to make things just because they're pretty - I always feel like I need a reason to use them.

Yes. Hoard them. Hoard them ALL! I just got two more sizes the other day. Dunno what I'm going to DO with them, but they are so pretty!

I like the idea of using the larger ones to be a card itself. So nice when done shabby chic/collage-y!

You can use them as a card - just insert a postcard. Also great for journaling on a scrapbook page.

You can also use them in scrapbooking, altered books, or make your own book out of them. Make pretty tags to put inside them. Write a letter to someone you love. Slip pictures inside them, bind them with a beautiful ribbon, and place them on your coffee table. Use them to make an advent calendar/activity. Hmm... I might be able to come up with a few more ideas...

Default library pockets

I know this may be a dumb question but where exactly do you get these library pockets?

You could also use them on the front of a gift bag with the gift card in it or on top of a gift box.

I was at a local SB store a few weeks ago and they were doing a MNT using these for a small brag book. I wrote down the instructions and bought everything to make them but haven't had the time. I'm hoping to do so Friday night at a crop and will try to post a picture and instructions (I've never done this before).

They haven't arrived yet, but I just ordered some from:

Scroll down to the middle of the page.

She also has some gorgeous ribbon which was discussed in another thread.

HTH!

I'm the library director for our church and we have tons of pockets and even more book cards. I'll have to buy a few from the church and try a few things with them.

I order all my supplies from www.demco.com - but you have to buy boxes of 500 pockets at a time for about $21.89 before shipping (comes to about $.04/pocket).

So far I've only made my library pockets, using SU! cardstock, of course. I like that this allows me to make them any size I need.

And altered books are fun, wonderful creations. If you don't want to use a book you own, you can pick up hard-back books for about $1 at the Goodwill store. An excellent book to read if you're interested in this is Altered Books 101, by Beth Cote. It's followed by books 102 - 104. These are the books that "taught" me how to do my altered star book in the DD gallery. And it's addictive. I've only done books to give away. I haven't done anything to keep, yet.

Now, keep in mind that some people are fanatical about this. They do all kinds of things to books, like making niches in the pages and putting things in the niches. You can even add drawers to a book! But I don't like the goth, scary pages that you may find.

Here's is tempting picture of books 101, 102 & 103.

OK. Thanks for the info but I guess I'm dense or something. Why alter the book and what to you do with it or use it for after it's altered?

I like using library pockets in scrapbooks. I can put non-photo materials into them on the scrapbook page.

Its just another added element to enhance your pages.

Books are altered for the same reason cards are made, ATC's or anything is created, to express oneself artistically, to share that with another person. Some folks feel that books should not be altered but in today's world, when libraries are disposing of "unuseable or unsellable" books, I think it is a fine endeavor....judy

some of the links did not come out below but this one has some beauties
