Default What color family(s) should I select?

I need advice. So far I have not purchased many SU supplies. I am realizing I need to upgrade my cs supply, and take advantage of the Nov. Stampin Spots special. My dilemna - which colors are used the most? In each group I see colors I love and others I will not use much. However, I think that it makes sense to start out with a few of several colors rather than a single color pack.

What suggestions do you have?

Thanks for any help.

(I thought I posted this question a while ago but now I cannot find it. My apologies if this ends up being a duplicate.)

Why not buy the assortment cardstock to see which you like together. Then once you have decided get the full pack in those colors and then you will have a selection of all the colors to use when you venture outside the most often choices.

On a side note: I just recieved the assortment of Rich Regals CS and I have to say this family has a lot of blue in it. So if blue is your thing I would say go with that.

If you like several colors in each group, why don't you try buying color assortments according to the seasons? Fall tends to be Earth Elements, Winter is Rich Regals, Spring is Soft Subtles and Summer is Bold Brights. Of course these aren't hard and fast rules by any means! ;)

Buy what you like. Look around your house and your closet. What colors do you naturally go for? What cards in the galleries speak to you? If someone asked you your favorite 2 colors, what would you say right away?

Don't worry about what is popular, and don't be surprised if you change your mind about some colors once you see them and combine them with other colors.

I started with Bold Brights. Every color is in there and it is a fun set of colors that works well with white, and makes lively birthday and holiday cards. Then I moved to Earth Elements because I love autumn and those colors in general. I got Royal Regal next and finally, Soft Subtles. Didn't think I'd like the subtle colors. I end up using SS all the time!! Go figure.

Once I got all the colors, I started buying single color packs of the colors I like. And, don't forget black! It is awesome as a layer. Can really make your designs pop!

Finally, you can't go wrong with any set of colors. They coordinate beautifully and there is always next month for another order! LOL

The funny thing about the colors you don't like is you'll see a color combo, or card here on SCS and it will become your new best friend!! I always go w/the seasons concept. Look at your stamps if you have lots of flowers you may want spring/summer colors masculine/vintage colors rich regals and earth elements. etc.

Thanks for the suggestions. The seasonal idea is a good one. Anniem88, I agree about the combos seen on SCS. That is one reason decisions are difficult!
