So, the MS line is exclusive only to Michael's, huh? If that is true, then on the one hand that's a bummer for independent retailers and for their instructors, but, on the flip side, at least it will give Michael's customers something new to look at . . . for a while . . . anyway . . .

I am KICKING myself that I didn't get the pointy circle stamp (not the scallop one) now . . . I got the cornflower one and can't wait to play with it.

As for ribbon, well, some of it was on the spendy side, but, some was very reasonably priced--12 yds. of 3/8" nylon piped edge ribbon in lovely shades for $2.99 US. I thought that was very reasonable for such nice ribbon. She also has her infamous silk seam binding ribbon, which I absolutely ADORE, even tho I didn't get any, cuz I have gobs of that at home I still need to use up!

OK, so I got a little giddy . . . but, I really did like most of it!
I loved that ribbon!! I enabled myself to buy some of it, along with some pretty packaged patterned paper. I was impressed with the whole line... couldn't believe I was the only one looking at it, and I was there for probably 20 minutes.. Guess the smart people went to the beach today!

Be sure to look at the yardage and amount of product you're getting when you look at the Martha stuff. One thing I noticed is that the ribbons (excluding the higher-end satins, etc.) were extremely reasonably priced. Twill tape available in several colors (white, tan, brown, green, blue, etc.) was $2.99 for 7 yards - 2 packages of those ($6) would be 5 yards more than SU package for the same price. Piped edge nylon ribbon was 12 yards for $2.99. Package that comes with 6 varieties of baker's twine with 12 yards *each* (75 yards total) was $3.99. Jars of fine glitter (just like Dazzling Diamonds plus tons of other colors) that are 1.5 oz were $4.99... SU's DD and glitter are $4.50 for only 1/3 of the amount. Punches were $9.99 - same as SU for same sized punches but different shapes, etc. I'm in Texas, so obviously, I'm not sure how the prices vary in different areas.

Honestly, I was impressed with the pricing on these things as well as some of the label stickers, etc. It's certainly not out of line with what SU and most other companies charge, and in some cases, like ribbon/twill/glitter, I was able to get more product for less than I could get from other companies or back in the regular ribbon section at Michael's. The stickers, rub-ons, etc. were priced similar or better to those I find at the scrapbook store. Obviously, you can't use a coupon, but I can't use a coupon on the things I want from SU or the scrapbook store, either, so I guess I figure that's just the way it goes.

Julie! If only we could have gone shopping together, my friend! I think we must have bought the same stuff! (Did you mean the pointy circle punch... I didn't see any stamps like that. Might have to go back if you really did mean stamps!)

Dang, I had m' paws all over everything!

I'm regretting not purchasing a number of things, really, now.

Oh, well. Gives me something to look forward to on my next chance visit to Michael's, right?!

yes, YES!!! The pointy circle punch!!! Sorry for the confusion. I'm not big into rub-ons, but, I loved the ones she had--just wish she'd produce 'em in stamps, tho! heh, heh, heh!

And, you are spot on about everything in your post above--check the yardage you are getting on the spool--I was VERY impressed with the pricing, as I felt it was very competitive with all the other major scrap lines out there. I'll definitely be buying more!

And, yes--man, imagine the fun we'd have shoppin', babe!

Darnitall you guys!!!! I do NOT want to even start thinking about Martha's stuff - I already am coveting those punches and I haven't even seen them!!! It totally sucks tho that we can't use coupons b/c the markup in Canada is outrageous (those punches that are 9.99 for you guys are 17.99 up here!!! BLECH!)

I went today and although the aisle looked beautiful I didn't see anything I kust had to have. I almost got the pointy circle punch but put it back because of not being able to use my coupon.

Up until this point it has been pretty easy, since they hadn't put anything new out in so long! But right now, I hear Martha calling my name... "Give me all your money, Heather!!!"

Talks about how Martha is going to give the Dowdy Craft Business a makeover.... Here's the article: Dowdy Craft Business.... What do you think??

Okay, back to find some more sneak peaks.... of Martha's new line....

My friend was dying to see the Martha stuff, so I went back again with her and saw the darling bandana paper! Pretty spendy, though. It was $11 for 24 sheets. (Well, maybe not TOO bad, but it was dang cute!!) I'm thinking I need the pointy circle punch, in addition to the little scalloped one I bought. I was playing with it and it works beautifully with "Circle of Friendship" and super cute with "Polka Dots and Petals."

I went, I saw and I didn't buy. I liked the stuff but I cannot imagine myself spending that kind of money that they want for some of it. That said I might just have to have some of those punches. They were really, really, really nice.

I went to Michael's yesterday to check out the new line. Most of it is just okay. I decided on purchasing a few of the organization boxes, despite the expensive price. They were pretty and the blue matches my scrapbook room so I went ahead. FYI: the boxes to store cd's do not hold 50 cd cases (possibly the slim ones). I was able to fit 27 unmounted stamp sets into a box. I know that I could get cheaper storage options elsewhere but I decided a few pieces would be okay. I would certainly not go overboard conisdering the prices. (note to self: shred the evidence!)

I went to the Michaels in Oregon (near 205) on my lunch break Friday. I adored everything and bought quite a few items. I tried the punches this morning and am in love! The display was beautiful and I love the wire hangy things also - saving them; there has to be something creative to do with them.

Nothing that I have to have and thought it was expensive. Don't know why no coupons. Maybe when it has been in the stores for awhile. Had Crikets but want 299.00 for them.

Man, I had the pointy circle in my hands twice now and have put it back. I think I will have to go back and buy it after reading what you ladies have written. I am not good at peer pressure. Wait till I tell my husband we're going back to Martha's aisle. He wants to go back anyway so he can put a fingerprint on her wallpaper, LOL!! He will never grow up.

Default I stopped by a Mike's just to see the new MS stuff...

I was expecting more. I did not see any stamps or ink pads -- I'm not sure why I was expecting them but I was. It was mostly organizational stuff that looks the same as a lot of other things I've seen around. The giant album was interesting as was the paper (where on earth would you store that paper to keep it nice?). I did not like how all her tools where white -- maybe I'm super messy but 15 minutes of crafting and all those tools would no longer be white.

I did buy a package of pens ONLY because they were all sepia color. Last year I spent several days going to any craft store in our area trying to find a pen that was sepia and couldn't. Now I have 3 pens & one marker. I have to admit I almost missed them because the packaging does not say what color the pens are, I'm glad I looked.

Mine had some ink pads. There wasn't a huge selection and I wouldn't buy them anyway. But, overall, I liked the stuff. I just try to stay with SU whenever possible because it benefits me. I did buy one of her punches. It's a good thing.

Hello All

OK...after listening to all of you...I was off to M's. I ended up with three of the punches (pointy and scalloped punches and tag) and I love them. I do wish they were not white but I like the handles on them and they seem like they reach a little further into the paper which is nice

They were just putting things out so no ribbon or other embellishments yet.

Thanks to the enablers who sent me on my search

I had hard time finding sneak peeks anywhere, but if you find any, do tell. I can't get back to Michael's for some time again. . . *pout*

The article was interesting. But, I don't think of the craft business, and in particular, the paper crafting business, as a "dowdy" one, generally speaking. It seems quite fast-paced, as far as trends go. It's a $3 billion industry, so regardless of whether it actually is dowdy or not, that's nothin' to scoff at, IMHO!

When I look at where I started, and what the styles were at the time, vs. what they are now, and I look at lines such as Martha Stewart and Anna Griffin, I think they fill a gap in the industry as far as catering to those that aren't interested in trendy (shabby chic, grunge, free-style, victorian, retro, etc.), so much as they are interested in achieving a look that has lifetime of longevity with regards to style . . . in other words, it won't look "dated" 5, 10, 15, 20 years from now due to the endurance of classic style/design.

I could be way off base, however? Time will tell, I guess!

I went to Michael's today and I thought the MS collection was awesome. That said, it is a little rich for my budget, but if I ever win the lottery I would buy it. I found her prices and style to be comparable to Anna Griffin, which I happen to love. I spent most of my time just looking at everything. The colors are wonderful. I am sure I will go back because I know I missed seeing everything. The clerk did tell me that after a few weeks there will be some discounted pricing, but only 10 or 15% - no 40%.

I stopped by and it is beautiful, but nothing immediately grabbed me. Then I turned around and saw the K and Co stuff! That was amazing so I bought that. I know I will be back in to get MS stuff, just need some time to decide what. And those big albums!!!! Oh mt goodness they are HUGE, where would you even put that in your house once it's done. It would take a crane to lift it! I agree 12x12s are ahrd enought to fill and the 18x18 paper was $2.00 a sheet!

Waaaaah. I didn't buy it. But, it's like a scallop circle, but the tips are pointed, not rounded.

Like a "seal". Have you ever seen those golden sticker seals, with pointy edge all around, like a starburst?

I guess the proper term is "serrated edge", not "pointy". LOL!
