I have seen more and more cards that use Ancient Page inks ... and wondered how they differed from SU! inks. Specifically, I am interested in how the Chocolate A.P. ink stamps compared to our Basic Brown. I am heading out to a stamp store today in town and wondered if I should pick up a few of the A.P. pads ... or not.
SU used to have a line of Ancient Page stamps for scrapbooking before they came out with their craft inks. I have them and hate them!!!!!! Have barely used them. They stain stamps badly. The colors are funky. etc. etc.
I recently bought all the craft ink spots when they were on sale and love them so much!
Save your money. Don't buy the ancient page. Buy SU craft pads!
Thanks for the advice. I resisted getting any A.P. inks today at the stamp store ... but I did pick up a Colorbox Fluid Chalk pad (in Rouge) and now I am in love with the chalk pads! May have to buy both of the SU! petal point pads now! YIKES!
I also spied some Souffle pens (by Sakura) ... but don't know if they are must haves or not. $20 for 10 pens.
I use Ancient Page often. Everybody has different tastes, needs, wants... do what you like and don't rely on somebody else's opinion.
Do you reach for the Ancient Page over the SU! inks? I have the SU! Basic Brown and also the Stazon Timber Brown ... do I need the A.P. Chocolate? Just wondering if the A.P. "takes" to the paper differently than the other inks.
AP is a very fast-drying, waterproof ink. There's actually even a special cleaner pad you can buy, but I don't really worry about staining much. There are some really nice colors, and I do like the "crispness" of the stamped images.
It is definitely a "to each her own" kinda thing, lol. They are very nice if you do a lot of watercoloring...of course, as an SU demo, I just use the SU stuff nowadays...
The people at Lucky Squirrel (shrink plastic manufacturers) use and recommend AP. A lot of folks use it on dominoes, which I've never figured out because even though it's waterproof, it's NOT permanent, which is what I thought you needed.....whatever, it IS a nice ink -- I have several colors in the small-sized pads.
