Velum/help

I have a HP photosmart printer and would like to make some overlays with greetings, sayings etc. on them to attach to my cards. The problem I'm having is the ink smears and words just aren't sharp.
I've used heavy velum as well as the lighter weight and problem is the same.
Anyone out there who can help me out?
Thanks
Daisy

Sorry I can't help. I use an Epson ink jet printer and never have a problem. Hopes this bumps you so someone else can help.

When printing on vellum it is a good idea to use the setting for transparencies, or the smallest amount of ink (draft on my HP). Try that, and let it dry completely before you cut it. Then you should still not let your fingers touch the words if at all possible.

Took the words right outta my mouth! :D

Heat setting with an embossing gun can help, too. :)

Don't melt the vellum though, be very very careful ...

If you leave the vellum overnight, it is dry the next day, for me.
Hopefully, you're not in a hurry!

I have used tracing paper in my printer instead of vellum. It seems to dry faster but has a similar look to vellum. Depends somewhat on the look you want. Tracing paper is lighter weight.

I've never had a problem with my SU! vellum (cardstock or paper). I need to be careful to avoid warping the paper, but I haven't ever melted it. I use my gun more like a hair dryer...some heat, some air, dried text. :)

I buy vellum at Staples that is for use in an inkjet printer and it's worked perfectly. It was also okay to touch the printed vellum after it dried.
