Using Art stamps

I love the look of art stamps (you know the ones, big with fine lines, etc), so I collect quite a few. However, I can't seem to get them to look as cool on the paper. Help me with some ideas please!

1. I want options besides coloring them in--or at least, not coloring the whole thing in. I am not a huge fan of coloring except when others do it. :)

2. I also need ideas for using them for various occasions. Flowers I can figure out how to use for just about any circumstance, but what about a big art stamp? Or things like various animals?

Sorry if I sound so clueless!

Thanks in advance!

I like doing these by using background techniques and then stamping the image in black over it. You can find lots of cool background techniques at www.patstamps.com.
