Used perscription bottles for gifts?
 

I wanted to get opinions on using old perscription bottles for crafts and gifts..

and although a great idea, and I really love it - I'm a little nervous about using a perscription bottle even when washed and putting candy in it afterwards..

What do you all think ?

As long as all the original labeling is removed and the bottle thoroughly washed, I don't see why not. I would probably feel better filling them with non-edibles still.

I am a little leary of using the bottles in case of some kind of problem with traces of meds...Target has great bottles for their rx and I hate to toss them, so I use them for my own use for non edible stuff...people can be sensitive to stuff and I would worry they may react to even faint traces of meds....

I'd wash them thoroughly and then put the edible items in a small plastic bag inside if you're worried about contamination.

I think it's an adorable idea. Perhaps putting them in the dishwasher would be enough to kill off any residue?

It is a very cute idea, but I would be concerned about reusing the bottles due to any possible medicine residue. Any chance you could buy some new bottles from your pharmacy?

After washing maybe just use edibles that have a wrapping on them. I have a few that are larger and could be used this way........ Now you got me thinking of some gift ideas! LOL!

I have to say you are all getting a little carried away with medications contaminating the bottles. I don't believe for a minute that after washing the bottles you would not be able to reuse the bottles.

I use to work in a pharmacy and I would have no problem reusing a bottle that had meds in it. I also would wash it in the dishwasher to make sure that it is cleaned realy good. I never thought of using them this way. Thanks for the idea!

Kind of off topic, but for those of you who are leary of reusing your bottles but don't want to waste them...check into local homeless shelters. One near us uses old prescription bottles to dispense shampoo/etc in (it's cheaper to buy in the bigger containers and parse it out). Just as an FYI.

I love to store my brads and teeny tiny embellishments in leftover prescription bottles. So handy!

I have bought bottles from Wal-Mart at the pharmacy. They have no problem selling the empties. And they are cheap, under a buck depending on the size. This is a great way to go cause you don't have to worry about taking the tag off.

Back to the topic, I too would use the bottle after dishwashing throughly.
