Unmounting question....

I just bought a used set of "alphablocks". It was mounted without being trimmed and will drive me crazy. I read somewhere here that you can take an exacto knife and trim it down while on the block. I tried that one one and where I peeled the excess rubber, it left sticky residue. Does anyone have a suggestion on what I should do??? Thanks for any suggestions.....!

you could try goo gone to get the sticky stuff off.

Yes, GooGone (available most places--I've seen it at the groc store, Walmart, etc.) or use the little adhesive remover thingy. :-) SU sells one, but I bought mine at Walmart for under $2. It was in the office supplies section.

I wonder if a pencil eraser might not remove it?

I've never tried it, but I've heard that you can put the whole stamp in the microwave for a few seconds, which re-heats the sticky stuff enough for you to peel it off, trim it, and stick it back on. Again, I've never tried it, so I don't know if a residue is left, or how well it works. If you try it, be sure to let us know if/how it works!!! :-D

The microwave works to take the rubber off the wood, but does not remove the residue. Personally, instead of using an exacto knife, I would microwave the block for 5 to 7 seconds (depending on your microwave), remove the rubber from the block, trim to size and re-stick. It will stick perfectly ... then you will still need to get rid of the sticky stuff with Goo Gone or whatever works (never done this). I have used the exacto knife before to trim an alphabet stamp (not SU) and I had bleeding fingers by the time I was done, lol (not too good with an exacto knife). Then I learned the microwave method and it is MUCH easier on the fingers!
