Taryn, I've been a demo for almost a year now. I LOVE it! I did another home-based business before SU and found it to be a lot of work trying to get people to host parties. I tried hard - making my daily calls, etc. I did okay at it, but didn't really make money. With Stampin' Up, I haven't yet had to ask anyone to host a party for me! They just call me and book! And I live in Alberta, where there are around 400 new recruits every quarter! I find it so easy to get business with Stampin' Up! I've set up two hostess clubs, and may start a third come July - this guarantees my numbers for the year so I don't feel pressured to meet quotas. I love the benefits - I've gotten so many free stamps since I started (I had 39 sets when I started, now I have over 100 - I've lost count!). And I actually make money! Stampin' Up offers a good compensation plan so you can get override cheques above and beyond your instant commission. My last cheque was around $350 - and it was for a relatively easy month! And that's the bonus on top of what's made instantly at a party! I think I had 3 workshops that month.
One downside of SU as a business is that it does take a lot of time. The workshops do require a lot of preparation. But, I really love that part of it. I enjoy prep'ing cards while I watch TV in the evenings or looking here on SCS for new demo'able ideas. I don't get as much time to stamp for myself because most of my stamping time is spend preparing for workshops. But, I still really enjoy it. And, it's definitely made me a better stamper. I have to stay on my toes with new techniques and ideas so I can teach the latest to my club members.
All in all - I think it's worth it! It does support my habit, and then gives a little extra too.
