This is the UGLIEST ribbon storage EVER!

My mom RAK'd me with probably around 100 different ribbon all 1 or 2 yards long. Very nice of her, but WHAT to do with them? My friend told me about Scrapbook.com's new Pull-EZ ribbon purse. I liked it, but it was a bit too much ($20 each).

So, today I was just about to recycle my son's plastic bag that held his wooden puzzle book and thought... I wonder?

It is hard to see since the plastic is clear, but I used my exacto knife to make some slits in the bag in 3 rows near the top and PRESTO! Slid the end of the ribbon out of the slit and here is a ribbon storage bag for ribbons 1 to 2 yards long. Looks pretty awful, but hey, I don't mind. Does the trick!

Ok, so that isn't the ugliest bag I've ever seen and its very clever and environmentally friendly to reuse and recycle stuff you would have trashed. Why spend $20 on something that is free?

Donnarie 09-25-2007 07:04 PM

That is kind of ugly, but in a very good way. Good thinkin', girlie! :D

cindy501 09-25-2007 07:19 PM

Functional outweighs ugly any day. Good for you for thinking of it.

rhondag 09-25-2007 07:21 PM

Great idea! TFS!

sharondh 09-25-2007 07:24 PM

IMHO, go with what works!!! Great idea!

valeriecathleen 09-25-2007 07:43 PM

And now you have $20 to spend on more stamps!

(PS It didn't make me run screaming into the night. Not gorgeous but you have to do way worse than that to call it the ugliest thing ever!)

willsygirl 09-25-2007 08:16 PM

I LOVE it :-)

Very creative thinking - great recycling - and you can see all of the ribbons in one place - I am going to save the next bag that we have from a toy for this purpose - I have so many odds of ribbons that this is perfect :-)

My storage is a gallon zip lock bag!

That's what I was thinking!!!

dianerh 09-25-2007 09:15 PM

Hey! It works and it's way better than the basket of odds and ends that I have. Just tonight I was digging thru the mess thinking, "There HAS to be a better way..." ;-)

FriendlyKat 09-25-2007 09:29 PM

good thinking!

Divanurse 09-26-2007 12:01 AM

This is neat!

jukie 09-26-2007 01:43 AM

Great Idea! I am sure if you want to 'jazz' it up you have plenty in your stash to decorate!

RJP111 09-26-2007 01:46 AM

Haha! Love your "ugliest ribbon storage ever!"

momis mama 09-26-2007 02:01 AM

very clever!

beauty is in the eye of the beholder... of ribbon!

great job!

meluvstampin 09-26-2007 02:58 AM

I think this was a very good idea. You cansee what ribbons you actually have and you just need to pull on the ribon and cut. YOu can add more if you need to. Very practical. I would use that with pride! And as others have mentioned - it is recycled and you saved money!!!!! Maybe you started a new ribbon bag trend. This is perfect for all of those loose ribbons. Right now I use Cropper Hopper's cribbon cards and holder for my loose ribbon BUT the ribbon creases from thefolds around the ribbon card. This is a much better idea as the ribon does not really need to be ironed before use.
You may be onto a new ribbon invention! I know I would buy one and get rid of my current one.

maconscrapper 09-26-2007 03:59 AM

Works for me.

DixieCurl 09-26-2007 04:02 AM

Yesterday I bought an organizer with 26 one yard spools of alphabet ribbon at Hobby Lobby on clearance for 11 bucks. It's cute and sturdy and all, but your idea takes up much less space and is more portable.

robynstamps 09-26-2007 04:25 AM

Great idea. Not as ugly as you think!

Captain kate 09-26-2007 06:11 AM

Ribbon storage

I am new to your board! I am a cardmaker/scrapbooker and have lots of ribbon. Since I use ribbon on every project, I need it really organized so I can find exactly the ribbon I am looking for. I use ribbon ring tags... . I like how they hang on the wall and I can see all of one particular ribbon color at once. Just another idea for those of you who haven't solved your ribbon storage problem yet!

ececsy 09-26-2007 06:59 AM

I don't think it's ugly! I like seeing all the ribbon like that! fun!

great idea!

serialpurrs 09-26-2007 10:00 AM

As long as it gets the job done who cares it might be ugly?

zipperc98 09-26-2007 10:07 AM

Hey, it may be ugly, but at least it is functional. :-) Great thinking.

mestampalso 09-26-2007 10:30 AM

i think that is a clever idea

tish101 09-26-2007 10:46 AM

It's not that ugly. I think it's kinda cute. You an see all the colors of ribbons and it's sort of "decorative" ... in a way.

At least it was inexpensive, right? I save soup cans and tuna cans all the time to make desk accessories.

pepperdawg 09-26-2007 10:49 AM

What a clever idea! Who cares what it looks like as long as it's useful and saved you some money. Great thinking!! :-)

Colleen

stampinwomn 09-26-2007 11:46 AM

very - um - colorful!

MonTigg 09-26-2007 12:02 PM

Can you wrap them around clothes pins? I got them 100 for $1.41 at Walmart That is what I did then I stuck them in here http:////www.splitcoaststampers.com/...0&ppuser=15285 (this picture was taken before the clothes pins so you see a mess of ribbon inside but it looks very neat with the pins)

lcraven 09-26-2007 12:03 PM

What a great idea!!! Not ugly, just different! I like it! ;)

josh's mommy 09-28-2007 04:40 PM

Personally I think that is the cutest and cleverest thing ever LOL At least you can see it. I took an ordinary box with a lid on it and punched holes in it and pulled the ribbons out so I could see what I had. Later when I got more ribbons I got a box from fabricland and punched holes in that and put grommets in them. It was a big box and I made 3 levels of riobbon threads. I seperated the levels by putting cardboard right after the other. Works just fine and it holds alot of ribbon. Cute to because you could alter the cardboard box ( I just left it the way it was Swirly green decoration. Love green and love swirls) cost me $3.00

kphorse 09-28-2007 04:47 PM

If it works for you, then it's not ugly!

In fact, that is a very smart looking bag! Think of all the money you saved and can spend on stamps to go with all that ribbon!

LateBlossom 09-28-2007 05:10 PM

LOL! On page 104 of the new Creating Keepsakes, there is a thing called Ribbon pull-ez, which looks suspiciously like your ribbon storage but I imagine costs a lot more. You should sell them!

That's where I got the idea!! I got an email from Scrapbook.com and they are $20 each plus shipping. Lack of funds forces creativity!! LOL!

vdoyle8 09-28-2007 05:33 PM

Way to go! I'm proud of you - you were environmentally correct! And your son is a cutie!!

Coletta 09-29-2007 06:10 PM

Necessity truly is the mother of invention. I think your idea is way cool!

I'm going to try it myself. My ribbons are a mess!

Coletta

stampkinz 09-29-2007 06:22 PM

If I had seen it without reading your post first my first thought would not have been that it is ugly. I think it is creative and functional and pretty darn cool! Good thinking!

icensheba 09-30-2007 02:49 PM

I was going to buy one of those ribbon purses but now I can spend that money on stamps!!! I have the perfect package to recycle now that I've seen your super cool idea. I have a zippered bag that a set of sheets came in. Probably have enough ribbon to fill a comforter bag but that wouldn't be very handy for crops, would it? Hehehe

forestnymph 10-03-2007 04:03 PM

I love the idea
and it's NOT ugly at all.

I am going to have to check out all those 'gift' bags I get from the cosmetic companies to see what will work like that.

Thank you.
