Default Heat gun works in the kitchen!

On Tuesday I tasted a really neat treat at a Christmas party. It was a circle pretzel with chocolate and caramel in the center. I couldn't figure out how my friend did this. Ah.. it's a Rolo (chocolate covered caramel) melted inside the pretzel with a pecan half pushed into the top. I have never heard of this before! So, I went to our local grocery store but they don't carry Rolos other than in the little packs up by the checkout. (I did find the circle shaped pretzels though.) Anyhow, to make that part of the story shorter -- I drove to Fargo to get my Rolos and had my husband take me out for lunch.

I spent about 20 minutes unwrapping all of the Rolos. Then I stuck a Rolo into the center of each pretzel. Preheated the oven to 250 degrees and then "baked" them for 4-6 minutes. Hmmm... they didn't melt down like my friend's did.

So I got my handy dandy heat gun from the stamping room and heated up each treat and sort of mooshed them down with a spoon. I passed on sticking the nut into the top because I don't know if the kids (where we are going for Christmas Eve) like nuts. Boy did that ever work GREAT!

I think I ate too many Rolos though. I don't think I ate more than 10 (just the Rolo, not with a pretzel).

Those easy turtles are great, I'd never thought about using my heat gun. Great idea! I have used my heat gun to defrost my freezer. Works like a charm.

Merry Christmas!

WOW - sounds like a neat idea. I was at Target today to get candy and found a mixed bag with kisses and rolos and something else. Will have to try this!

I have also used mine to "brown"the topping on Creme Brulee', since I didn't have a torch. Linda

Yep, my heat gun has been used many times in the kitchen - great for softening butter and also for defrosting frozen berries.

Cheers,

Wow, those turtles sound great! My kids like the windowpane pretzels with hershey's kisses and an M&M smooshed on top. Basic chocolate for the kids, mint flavored M&Ms are great for the adults. I think we do the oven at 170, for about 9-10 minutes and then take them out and smoosh the M&Ms. Great project with the kids, as the pans don't get too hot.

I love it when crafting tools have multiple uses!

Thanks to your post, I made more of these using the caramel filled Kisses! Yum! It worked much better to melt them at 170 for 10 minutes. I just mooshed the tops with the back of a spoon and then stuck the pan in the fridge to help them cool faster. (These are much easier to eat because there isn't as much caramel!)

Thanks!!

Kimberly
