Okay, so maybe I am a little dense, but I did purchase the nestabilities, and I also bought the mat kit, or whatever it's called. Here is my question....
What is the really smelly black rubber mat for?
I don't use the hard blue plate because I have a cuttlebug, but I got that blue plate, a brown soft spongy mat, and a really smelly black mat. Personally it smells so bad I just want to throw it away, but I saw a post here awhile ago that some people needed a magnetic plate to keep the die in place. I thought that was it... problem solved  ! But no dice, it is not magnetic...no diggety!
So... clues? Ideas? Help? what did you do with yours?
From the bottom up I used, plate A, plate C, die, cardstock, plate B to cut. No problems. Plate A, Plate B, die, cardstock, tan pad, plate B to emboss.

I did put a piece of removable adhesive on plate C once to hold the dies where I wanted them. Don't know what the black mat is for.
Maybe that black pad needs to go bye bye  I have used the stack that was described and had no problems, it's just that black mat........what the heck is it and why do I have it?
Just a guess here, but is the black pad for embossing with the dies? I am just looking into the nestability dies and vaguely remember reading about being able to emboss with them too. I'd double check before tossing it.
While we are on the subject of nestabilities, can someone tell me which sizes are the same or close to the scallop punches? Thanks.
I agree about that black mat. It smells like new tire rubber and very pungent and yucky! I think I saw a sandwich stack listed somewhere that called for the black mat, but it was something that I don't think I'll ever need. I can't remember where I saw it, of course! In the meantime, I put it in a ziploc bag which contains the smell.
Good question, however you are supposed to use the tan pad which I did get and it works fine for embossing. Maybe it is supposed to be used for the other die cutting machines, which I don't own which then it would be..... SEE YA stinky pad! haha.
For questions about the Nestabilities.... which I LOVE by the way... go to
Since I have the black mat myself and had wondered about its use, I emailed Spellbinders this morning. Within 30 minutes, Mark answered my question:
"The black mat is to be used on top of the tan polymer pad when you are
embossing and the embossed image is not as clear or defined as you would
like it. This is sometimes very helpful when you are embossing with brass
embossing plates."
I think you could probably use two tan mats if more pressure is needed to emboss. And, I have recently received the magnetic mat and adding that makes the sandwich just a bit thicker and the embossing effect is truly incredible. So now I think I will say bye-bye to my smelly black mat, or at least retire it to an out-of-odor range storage place!
