Trimming stamps with a heated tool?

Please tell me I'm not losing my mind! I swear I was reading something about this in an earlier thread, but of course now I can't find it. I noticed that Joann's has the "Creative Hot Marks" tool on sale this week, and I was wondering if it could be used to trim stamps.

So does anyone do this? Do you use it strictly on UM images (rubber only), or can it be used with EZMount, too? And then there's SU stuff - is it OK with the adhesive?

I've used one of the tools, but only to cut the fake pumpkins that they sell at the craft store....it got really hot and melted that plastic in spots, so I would be concerned about it being too hot for the rubber....

I've never heard of that...and with SU! stamps I don't unmount the rubber just to put them back on a cushion...seems like reinventing the wheel to me...

I take the backing off the um SU! stamp...place the index sticker on the back of the stamp just like you would on the block...then trim and coat the index sticker with Tack It Over and Over...that way it goes in a CD case for storage and I don't have to unmount and remount every peice.

I agree I wouldn't want to cut through them both separately, but I'm pretty sure that I had read that you could use this tool (with the hot knife attachment) to cut through the rubber and foam at the same time. I think it would be a huge time saver - not to mention reducing hand fatigue - to literally burn rubber! I also think it would work better to trim out details; sometimes straight cuts just aren't the best option, KWIM? I do have the Kai scissors, but my hand still gets tired after mounting large orders.

Anyone have any first-hand experience?

no no...I meant that if you have the UM stamp still on the foam....and you take the rubber off the foam just to put it on EZMount...to me that is redundant...and unnecessary. that's all...not trimming twice....but mounting twice...

Oh, I got it now! I have cling vinyl that I use on my SU stamps, and I use EZMount on UM images I purchase elsewhere. I am an equal opportunity stamp addict!!
