I am so sorry to post this question. My upline2B is in the middle of moving to another state and I feel like I have been bugging her to death with questions.
I understand from my literature that SU waives the $300 quarterly quota during the first quarter the SU joins. Am I to understand that if I were to join in June, lets say .... that I would get only part of one month's benefit of the waived quota and then my quota would begin for the July - Sept quarter?
So... if I were worried that I might have a slow start, summer, etc.... that it would be best to join at the beginning of a quarter?
Quarters are Jan-Feb-Mar, Apr-May-Jun, Jul-Aug-Sep, and Oct-Nov-Dec. If you join part way into the quarter (for example now) you would need to make your $300 minimum in the next quarter (Jul-Sep).
Straight for the demo manual:
When a demonstrator joins Stampin Up!, her initial minimum sales requirement must be met during the first full quarter after she signs up. She does not have a minimum to meet in the partial quarter in which she signs up. For example, if she signs up on February 15 (during the first quarter of the calendar year), her first full quarter is AprilJune and her $300 minimum must be received by Stampin Up! by the last business day of June. Her sales between when she signs up and the first day of April would not count toward her first quarterly minimum.
New demos seems to always be concerned about making their minumum....and I think it isn't difficult at all. Keep in mind that you will probably be ordering supplies for yourself during that 3 month period.....that will count towards your minumum. If you host your own 1st workshop, you may be surprised to see that you can meet the minimum with just that. If you have 1 or 2 workshops - even small ones, you will make your quarterly minimum with no problem.
Since your upline2B is moving - will you have a "sideline" to meet with or will you be on your own? Meeting with my upline have always been helpful and motivating.
Also don't forget that you will be starting during the new catalog feeding frenzy, lol!
Really, though, it's not too difficult to meet your first quota ANY time of year...SU does a lot of nice promos, you'll be buying stuff to get going, etc. Don't forget, too, that it's $300 retail merchandise ordered. You get 20% off of that. So it works out to be less than you are afraid of. PLUS, your first hostess order will be 30% off.... I think you'll be just fine...

I also am thinking about becoming a demo. Your reply actually is sparking a question from me. LOL. You state that the first time you order, you get 30% off. Do you have to place this order at the time you purchase your kit or can you receive your kit first, have a couple of shows (to make some money) and then use that money + your discount to be able to maximize your order?
You currently get 8 catalogs in your starter kit. The 30% is for your first Hostess order (an order that is over $150) placed within 45 days of signing up. That is a good order to maximize if you can. It can include items that you need for yourself AND customer orders. Stampin' Up! recommends that you use your starter kit - borrow anything else that you need - and have an Open House/Workshop early, invite everyone that you know and make this order big.

Another silly question
Can demo's order a hostess set whenever they want for themselves? Otherwise, how do demo's earn these sets so they can use them for cards at home shows?

So you turn in this order with yourself as the hostess, you reap the benefits of being the hostess (freebies), and you get to keep 30% instead of 20%, correct?? I didn't know about this! I thought it was just your own first order.

Thank you!
Linda
right now we are working toward earning the hostess sets from the new catalog. after this promotion is finished, we will only be able to earn them the same way hostesses do...by having a workshop!
