For those of you who have actual stamp rooms...
I've been thinking about the issue of stamping space for some time now, seeing as we may be moving soon. I'm just curious. Those of you who have set aside a room, or part of a room, for your stamping space, complete with a desk and shelving and organizers, etc., do you find that you do in fact stamp/craft in your room?
I guess the reason that I'm asking is that I don't know if I would actually stamp in a stamp room! I'm so used to doing my projects at the dining room table, or, even better in the living room in front of the TV. So I'm wondering if a craft supply room might not be a better fit.

Let me put it to you this way. Since I have taken over a room for my stamp/craft room, I have stamped more in the last month since I got my room then I have in the last 5 months combined. I love my room! Good luck with your decision on whether to have a room or not.

I should add, I have a small TV, a VCR, and a DVD player in my stamp room so I think that has helped tons! I like to have noise while I am stamping so I can just put on a movie this way and stamp my heart out. My TV is only a 13 inch but it serves it's purpose. I have our old VCR and I bought a cheap DVD player for $29 at Target. That may be something to consider doing. I don't think I would stamp nearly as much if I didn't have that in my room.

I love my room!! And yes, having a radio in there helps! Having a room allows me to have everything within reach instead of walking back and forth to grab items.

I stamp in my stamp room/office all the time. Of course I have a tv hooked up to cable in there and have it on. My computer is also in my stamp area. you can see pics in my gallery. I have added a punch storage unit on the wall since those pics. I love having my area.

I stamp in my craft room most of the time. If I have a lot of paper piecing images to cut, I may bring them upstairs, but other than that, I stamp in my room.

Absolutely and I'm in a basement, but it is better than nothing. We will be moving in the near future. I will be looking for a home with a specific area/room for my stamping.

I got my room finished last September and practically live there! I, too, was a 'dining room table' gal. I think my dh got sick of 20 years of projects sitting on the table. Finally got my room and I LOVE it! Got for it!

Best decision I every made! I adore my stamp room! It's so convenient to have everything within reach. I love that I can stop in the middle of a project and just leave everything and close the door.
The only reason I can think of for NOT doing a craft room is if you feel you need to have people/activities around you to stamp. I do much better when I can choose the noise!

I stamp in my room most of the time but for some reason really feel more comfortable stamping at the kitchen counter. I do like however being able to leave a project I am working on out and just shutting the door until I can get back to it.

I am in there all the time----and i agree I love being able to leave my stuff out in the middle of projects. I do have a TV in there and a extra big comfy chair for the kids or my DH if they want to watch TV with me, while i stamp. It is right off the main area of the house and i find that to be better for me and my family. When it was in the basement, i didn't seem to use it as much, but then again the kiddos were younger and less able to be left alone, so that may be part of it. Good luck in whatever you decide works for you!

Absolutely! I love my "Studio". I especially like that I can pull out all the supplies that I need for a project and leave them out within reach until I'm finished with the project. I don't have to keep clearing off the table and then pulling my stuff back out. I find that I am more apt to Stamp when I have some sudden spare moments if I can just walk in and pick up where I left off. Like the other ladies, I have an inexpensive TV & DVD player and cable hookup in there as well as my computer and photo printer.
It is my favorite place to go and destress from a busy day.

I love my stamp room. I typically do all my stamping after the kids go down or when they and DH are gone. The best part is that I have TiVo in there so that I tape Grays, What about Brian and Brothers and Sisters and watch it while I stamp/scrap. DH happily gave up the spare room as now my dining room is always spotless and I'm not having little hands wanting to play with everything. The downside of it is that I used to get on the treadmill or bike if I wanted to watch shows I've taped...uummm, so that's why my jeans are feeling a bit snug....

My stamp room has moved a few times. Basement space -- to dark and drafty; Off of the kitchen -- great light, warm, but no door to close when I'm in the midst of a project or when friends with young kids came over. Now that DS has moved on, his room is now the guest room, and the guest room has been converted to my stamp heaven. It's perfect when it's just me and/or one friend, but it's too small for "the gang." When we stamp as a group, it's still the kitchen table. I'm happy! HTH

I have one wall of our home office which is located right off the family room with french doors. I've set up a four-foot table in here before with the doors open facing out into the family room.
Unless I'm making one single card or scrapbooking, I still take everything onto my kitchen island.
I think I have a fear of a well-juiced-up stamp facing onto the carpet!

I love my stamp room! It is such a pain to stamp anywhere else, including going to someone else's house since I have everything in my room! I have a little 13" tv and DVD player, and I bought an iHome for my iPod, so it is my little place of heavan! I also have 2 kitty beds so my kitties keep me company, I love it!

I have our spare bedroom as my craft room. It's only a small room and there isn't enough room for two people comfortably - so the only time I craft at the dining table is when a friend comes over to craft with me two afternoons a month. And it's a right pain as I'm forever having to go and get supplies - but then it is nice to have her company on those afternoons too!
But I'm much happier crafting in my own room as everything is within easy reach. No TV but I have my iPod and like Kelly, my two cats often come and keep me company in there.
Plus as others have said - you can walk away from unfinished projects. It would drive me barmy to have to clear up the dining table after every cardmaking session!
I love my dedicated craft room I'm in it most days. There are some things you could still do at the dining table or in front of the TV if you wanted to. I think you'll just have to try it and see if it suits you.

sounds like the general concensus
i don't stamp anywhere else in my house (i do however stamp in other peoples' house)
i love having 'my own space' . i can walk away in the middle of something and not feel bad for leaving everything out. everything is so handy. things don't get lost or misplaced anymore.
it's really easy to put together a basket or bag to go to a card club or a friends house to stamp!

I spend more time in my craft room than any other room in the house. It is my santuary. It is ever evolving to make access more convenient. Think long and hard about what kind of space you are wanting. It has taken me 2 years (obsessed, I know!) to get me to almost the way I want it. I may have the chance to move into a bigger room when the DD gets married but may decline just for the fact that my room is custom built now and not moveable. I have a U shaped desk with a computer and TV above so other than restroom and meal time breaks I can stay in here all the time.

I moved into the smallest bedroom, when I was finally done with exchange students and one of 2 daughters had married. Now I'm going to move to the bigger of the 2 spare rooms, as soon as I can get DD to remove the rest of her junk. I need the space and we rarely have guests. I do love stamping in a specific rooom- as most have said.

Hi!
I don't have the space to turn a kids room into a stamp room. They're all still living at home, LOL!!! Our kids are 19 (attending Junior College), 16 and 9. We live in a small 3 bedroom house. But we do have a kitchen/dining/family room space. It's about 1/3 of the house. So that leaves the front room for TV and company and the family room I share with the computer, our 3 cages of birds and my stamp stuff.
I keep stuff (stamps are unmounted and in binders) in and on 3 cabinets along 1 wall, metal literature cabinet holds uncut cardstock and stuff (like my Sizzix) in and on 4 Iris carts along the other wall. I even have 2 printers boxes (used to hold letters for old printing systems) mounted on the wall, I store embossing powder, radiant pearls, glitter, flocking and eyelets in these boxes. All my stamping stuff sort of makes an L shaped space. No table dedicated to stamping, but I do use the kitchen table and can store stuff on top of my sewing machine cabinet. There is also a small couch, TV and VCR in this space. It's packed, would not fare well on those "Sell Your House" shows. But it's neat and tidy (for what it is), easy access to all my stuff. Great view of the back patio (which is my sanctuary for peace and quiet) and easy access to the family. You can easily walk through this area and not trip over containers or stuff.
I'm a social stamper, I like noise, chaos and people around. When the kids have finished growing up and move out maybe then I'll get a room to put all this stuff in, I don't know.
I do love to look at all the spaces others have made for themselves. It's very motivating and inspiring. Keeps me dreaming, one day.

I had a stamping room. It was on the other side of the house and there was no cable hook-up or anything over there. I hated being away from everybody else and felt so isolated that I wasn't creative at all. So I moved most of my stamping stuff to a computer desk in the corner of my kitchen and I stamp at the kitchen table.
Now if I had an area that was more open and close to the living room (like an office or den off of it or something like that), I am sure that I would like stamping in there.

Oooooh, I stamp in my studio! I enjoy being able to leave my projects out, in progress, and not move them until completion! My embossiing station, glitter station, and the cutting station, have designated counter space, which is very convenient. It's easy to get quite 'attached' to your own, special space.

I do all my stamping in my Rubbah Room. I also have my computer and a TV and DVD player in there, so I could actually live in there except for sleeping. The only thing I don't do in my stamp room is cut and mount my stamps, I do that in front of the TV in the family room. I too like to be able to walk away from a project and just shut the door and come back to it later and nothing has been disturbed. My husband and I are empty nesters so we have no kids left at home so, we each have our own hobby room to escape to when we get on each others nerves.

Yes, you will use it. I had my "workshop" put into a corner down in our finished basement. I made sure there was a window in the area. The rest is a play area so there is a tv which I can turn on for company. My latest is to listen to books on tape or CD's while working. Sometimes I just play music.
Without a doubt if you can do go for it. You won't regret it. My workshop has now become the play area for my friends to come over once a month and we scrap/stamp while the kids are in school. It's our therapy day. Good Luck.

Absolutely! I love having my mess in a part of the house where it can't be seen every time someone comes over. I used to have my stuff in the dining room until we got the basement finished. Now it's so great down there I could be down there for hours and not know any time has passed! I sometimes bring my new sets upstairs and cut them out while I watch TV with my DH but everything else is done in my room.

We live in an apartment so I have no choice but to stamp at the dining room table or on the coffee table! Someday I'll have a room for this.

I love my stamp room, unfortunately, right now I am reorganizing, so I am unable to stamp in it. I miss using it and not having to pick up my mess. But it is definately heaven when it is clean.

I started out on the dining room table with all my stuff stored in a closet under the stairs....having to clean up each time I got up. That was over 5 years ago
Ever since I have always set up my own space, laundry room huge closet, formal dining room, and now 1/2 of dd's room which is used as the guest room.
I love that I can leave things I am working on where they are and come back to them later!
OH and in our next home I will have my own room

I only stamp in my craft room. I love it up there. Everything is right where I need it. I would hate having to keep going back and forth for supplies and such. I would put a TV up there if I could find a little spot to put it, but so far I just have my iPod. I have to admit, I don't like being excluded from my family, so I usually just do my stamping when the kids are in school, or in the evenings. When I do go up there during the day, the kid are almost always up there with me, either doing their own stamping, or dinking around on the computer. I LOVE my craft room.
