I''m just glad I'm not a demo. Since demo's put so much money into new stamps sets every year, then end up having to not demo any of them 1 year later. Now 6 months later due to them retiring. too much money spent on items you can no longer use.
I'm not a demo and still New sets I bought this last 2 months are already retired that were brand new this year.
I'm at the point where I have more than enough stamps. to do what I need to do .SO for me this will probably be my last year after this next new catty comes out then I'm done.
I have to finish with my stamp camp for the next 2 quarters .
How many sets did some of you lose.

I think I had three current sets on the list. I'm not a demo though so it's not a huge deal to me. I haven't been buying SU like I used to just because I don't have enough room. I love the stamps I do have though. I've switched to acrylic just because I really do like them better. I love the storage aspect of them and I love that I can see exactly where I'm stamping. I'll probably continue buying acrylic for those reasons. I will buy SU though if there's a set I really love.
I just bought 3 sets in November that are on the retired list now. Doesn't bother me a bit, because I'm not a demo. I've bought several older sets recently for a whole lot less than the original catalog prices. Some were used, but others were brand new. If I like the images, what difference does it make?
I do feel sorry for all the SU demos though. Guess that's just the cost of doing business. Wonder if they can take some kind of a tax deduction for depreciation or something...
I lost 19 sets but I'm fine with it. I've started buying smarter and not one of these 19 sets were purchased during this catalog year. I've had them around for a while so I've gotten my use out of them. I just buy what I like so if they retire it's no big deal...I'm keeping them anyways even though I can't demonstrate them.
I have 12 current sets retireing, from sets to,background stamps to alphabet sets. some of these I have had for a few years now. So that's not all that bad. only a couple new sets this year I bought are retiring.
I'm ready to see some of them go.there long over due some of them.

This time I had 6 sets retire. Last time I had 14 sets retire. So in one year I had 20 sets retire. For me I think that is to many to retire in a one year time. I am not a demo, but I would still like to have current sets!

I am mostly a hobby demo and only buy what I really like anyways. I lost around 50 in July and another 10-15 this go around but unless I really don't think I will use it anymore, I will end up keeping all of them. I am sad to lose a few of them, but am looking forward to what is coming.
I am strictly a hobby demo, so it doesn't really phase me when sets I own are retired. I buy them because I like them in the first place. I'm even thinking of buying one set that is on the retired list. The only problem is that when set retires, it tends to fall out of the mainstream of things. You don't see it as much in magazines, on SCS, etc., so you tend to forget that you have it.
I do feel sorry, sometimes, for the demos who only keep current sets. It can be a huge loss, and I don't think there is any kind of a tax break for that. However, after a set retires, a demo can sell it (usually at a reduced price), and buy new stamps with that money. So, there are advantages as well.
As a customer...I am thrilled they retire so many and are bringing in new TOYS for me to want! Most of my friends who keep our demo doing a hopping business look forward to what is NEW...not the old faithfuls that are around forever! Even the ones that haven't been in many catalogs look old after a few months studying our catalog!
My demo has started buying "smarter" by purchasing sets she knows will demo well and appeal to a broad market. I'm sure we'll all be enjoying the new sets in just a few weeks!

Me too me too! I am always thrilled because then my demo and her upline breaks out with the sets they want to get rid of. Also, there is ebay too! I love buying sets after they've retired (only for cheaper than the original price), especially if they are ones where I only wanted one or two stamps from the whole set.
I am a demo and I'm kicking myself in the butt for not waiting a couple of days to place my order. On Nov 28th I placed and order that included 3 stamp sets (it was mostly a paper replenishment order). Dec 1 rolls around and wouldn't you know that all 3 sets are on the retiring list - ARGH!! Thankfully, I am mostly a hobby demo so I'll still use them. If not, off to Ebay they go!!
My poor demo - she lost 2/3 of her usable inventory with this last retirement and is losing about 20 more with this go round!!
While I'm thrilled of the prospect of new choices - what is SU thinking - several that are retiring were new to this catalog - did they not sell?
I can understand sending the Christmas/Fall ones to the dormant list to make room for more in the new catty.
My stamp camp group has 10 ladies in it - so I didn't even get a chance to be a hostess and get in on some of the hostess sets and now they are leaving. Oh well!!

I did not lose one set. I am a hobby demo, with one club to keep me going. While I am glad I did not lose anything, I only buy sets that I know I will continue to use.
I am a demo and am thrilled with the retiring list too. It makes me be smarter about my business purchases and gives more frequent rotation in our "stock" to find things that appeal to our customers. I lost quite a bit in July but only 6 this go 'round (an alphabet, a copyright set, and a few backgrounds/sets I wasn't using anyway). Having only one catalog a year gets so old... I want new and fresh offerings each season, so I love the new catalog and will use the heck out of a few well chosen/well loved sets now.
Sure, it does apply a sense of urgency to some purchases if you want something that is retiring, but what company doesn't do that? If you want to buy a dress from a shop, you don't expect it to be there forever, it will be there until they run out or until the end of the season. If you drool over a purse long enough, it will go out of season too and be gone. Some staples will be around for longer but the 2 cattys a year allows us to try new fresh things more often and appeal to a larger audience, so I'm all for it!
I have bought sets that were only out a few months or a couple of years and all of them are worth much more than I paid for them! Just something to remember if you did purchase some of those sets that were only in the catty 6 months, they should be worth more for resale value! Some examples of sets I have: Scouts at Play, Girl Power, DD Cabin, Wolf, Tool Time, Snow Globe, etc.
Just buy what you love and keep on making things with the set when they are retired, both of my demos do that to some extent (on calendars, upon request, because they love a set, etc.)
