Milk is the same way at our Safeway. You can buy two gallons for $6 but if you only need or have room in your fridge for one, you must pay $4.

Such is life.

As for the Fall Frenzy Promo, I think it's a great deal!

I think the "catch" is that it gets customers to purchase more $, which mean more sales for those of us trying to make minimums mainly from our customers purshases. I personally want deals for my customers that help to up my sales, not just specials that encourage lesser $ purchases. As a demo a $30 purchase each month is not very much for me to replenish my supplies. I have a very small customer base, but I still have to keep buying paper, reinkers, brads, and ribbon for classes. It's a 30% off special and I am very thankful for it. I'm probably gonna get flamed but I just don't get it when people get upset about getting 30% off.

[QUOTE=kdcrws;7060796]I got really excited when i first saw this, thinking Hey SU is finally putting stuff on sale!!!! Then I read the whole thing and of course there is a catch!!!! U have to spend 30 bucks first!!! Which really equates to 33 bucks plus tax then u add on the sale items and the 10% mark up and more sales tax and what started off being a good deal has just become expensive!!!! Dang and I really wanted a couple of the sets too!!!

Hmmm. Your profile says you only have one post. I think this might have something to do with Splitcoast, not your personal computer. Have you pm'd a moderator to ask for their help? That's what I'd do.

Fall Frenzy

September 1-September 30, 2007

Join the frenzy this month with our Fall Frenzy promotion!
Spend $30 in regular priced merchandise and qualify to purchase one of each of the six promotional stamp sets at 30 percent off!

Item Page # Description Discounted Price
105355 26 Bitty Boos Too $12.57
109284 29 Haunting Halloween $13.27
107383 30 Thoroughly Thankful $16.07
109373 108 Autumn Fest $16.77
109421 91 Elementary Essentials $19.57
110366 17 Stem Silhouettes* $22.37
Have to give some support to the original poster. A sale with no minimum purchase would be extremely nice. Either that or how about the offer of half price shipping. I do purchase during these specials though because you are at least saving something especially if you are trying to amass large quantity of SU's quality and flexible sets. I purchased some sets that were on sale like this in the spring. However, they all ended up being retired this year. I don't know if that is always the case when SU runs these sales but that is something to keep in mind if it is important to you to maintain a collection of current sets. It does not matter to me. I have been stepping away from SU a little bit by by purchasing individual stamps from http://www.addictedtorubberstamps.com/Specials
which right now is having a Labor Day Sale with the offer of half price shipping, $5 off next purchase and 10% to 30% off selected merchandise. I have my shopping cart full and now I gotta do some weeding out to keep it within my budget.

I definitely do consider the cost of shipping and tax into the total cost of my order as I assess every purchase as to the total cost. Even if the item itself is reasonable and will fit within my budget, it might not when you add tax and shipping. When placing an order for multiple things, I do divide the shipping and tax by the number of items I've ordered and then I have my total cost for each item. A little **** I know but every penny counts.

Is there a way to find out in advance what sales and promotions SU has coming up or is that a demo thing? Thanks!

We don't always get advanced notice on specials (except for Sellabration which will be Feb 1-Mr 17 this year). The other special we know about now is 20% off Simply Sent kits Oct 4-8. And yes, the best way to find out about specials is to become a demo. That's what pulled me in 9 years ago. And the other best way to find out about specials is to be on SCS

there is always a 'catch' for me when ordering from SU!

*** Pampered Chef is a flat rate of only $4 if you ship to the hostess. There is a sliding scale if you want direct delivery. The flat $4 is awesome for a workshop...those pizza stones are heavy!

I agree.... the complaining done about SU on this board lately is getting really annoying. If you don't like them... don't buy from them., Can't get any simpler.

If one of the sale sets, is one you love, it is a great deal.

Do want makes you happy.

Exactly. I love SU and the quality of their products, and I just feel like their is so much SU bashing lately. Everyone is entitled to like different products... we'd all be pretty boring if we liked the same things.

I like rubber mounted wood blocks... others don't. To each his (or her) own.

This is not meant to bash SU but a basic analytical look at the numbers. If you take your $30 order add to it one of the sets on sale at 30% off (take the Throughly Thankful set for example), add the tax (in my part of Florida it is 6%) and 10% for shipping the actual discount is actually just over 11% According to my calculations

Breakdown:
Regular Catalog Price
30.00 (minumum order)
22.95 (regular price of sale set)
52.95 (sub total)
5.30 (10% shipping)
3.18 (6% sales tax - Lee County, Florida)
61.43 (total order)

Sale Price
30.00 (minimum order to get sale price of desired set)
16.97 (desired set on sale for 30% off)
46.97 (sub total)
4.70 (10% shipping)
2.81 (6% sales tax)
54.48 (total order)

Total difference of regular price order to sale order is only $6.95. While any discount is appreciated by all it is hardly a huge difference in the bottom line when you take in all costs involved.

I really don't think the original poster actually wanted to bash SU, she was just voicing her opinion.

I am a demo (more of a hobby demo though) but do have to agree that it would be nice if SU *sometimes* would just offer a sale without having to buy something else. I do know that it is a great way to increase our sales, but a lot of stampers are on a budget and that might just be $35 per month. $30 might be not much to some people, but to others it is. (I decided to be at home now with the kids so I too am on a tighter budget now and would have gotten stem silhouttes if I didn't have to spend another 30. Of course there are tons of things that I want from the catalog, but still I only have so much money to spend.

This calculation is certainly accutrate and the conclusion may be appropriate for someone who absolutely does not want any mercahndise from SU other than the discounted sets. But let's face it, most of use do have at least $30 of regularly priced merchandise we want.

The bottom line is after you buy the $30, you do get a 30 percent discount on up to 1 of each of the 6 sets, plus you get a break on the tax and shipping on those sets, because they are both calculated off the discounted price, not the full price. So as long as you want the $30 in other merchandise and one or more of these sets, this is a fantastic deal!

I agree with Diane's take on this also...I spend at least $30 a month with a my SU demo as part of my weekly stamp club and will have no problem doing it to get a stamp set for 30% off if I was interested in one of the sets on sale. Replenishing card stock alone for me will add up to $30.

Lucky for you, I pay 8.9% tax!!

I happen to think it's great if you like the sets, and are going to be ordering $30 anyways. Which I am, but am probably going to pass on the sale due to lack of funds!!

LOL - I think that it is a great promotion if you like those sets - of course I always have a problem spending ONLY $30 regardless if there is a promotion or not - Anyway 30% off sets - that is NICE

I think it's an awesome promotion.

And I don't think it's fair to toss in shipping as part of the cost, in comparing it to a promotion. That's like me throwing in the cost of gas to drive to Michael's to get something on sale!
Ok, to clarify this. You have to spend $30 for EACH set you want at the discount. If you only spend $30, you may only get 1 set. However....I've been looking at the Elementary Essentials set. The regular price is $27.95. If I buy $30 of other stuff, that I would buy anyways, I get that set for less than $20. Tha t makes that a great deal!

NO- $30 gets you ONE of EACH set on sale. $60 gets you two of each set. Id you want 2-Elem.Essentials, you have to buy $60 in product. If you want one of each set, you only spend $30 to get all 6 sets on sale.

Thank you for clarifying that. The first time I read about the special, the poster said you could only get one discounted set per $30 order. My demo sent me an email with the special and said "one of each set" with a $30 order. I trust my demo and the wording at the SU site seems to back her up.

I called DS just now and I was wrong. You spend $30 and you may get 1 of each of the six sets at the discount. If you decide that you want 2 or more of any of the sets, then you must spend the additional money.

What's so bad about spending $30? I thought the sale was great!

What I'm doing for my first time customers is putting together a flyer of products to put together the cards shown that equals about $30, and then you can go ahead and purchase your stamp set. All of my SU newbies have loved this!

People seem to be so quick to complain about SU around here.
This is an excellent idea! Thanks for the suggestion!

Could you hook up with a demo in the states? I don't know if it would be worth it since then you'd have to pay to have her send them to you - but the stuff IS very nice! Lol

I think this is a great deal. I was going to buy the Haunting Halloween anyways - and was thinking about another. At 30% off I wouldn't pass it up. However, I just became a demo and get my first purchase at 30% off...so I believe I'll get them at 60% off. Now THAT is a deal!

It just seems like a silly thing to complain about. What's next "Stampin Up is giving away free sets, but first I have to spend $50" during SAB?

Stampin' Up has great promotions- and customers can really benefit- but they are all designed to boost sales!
LMBO! Now that's FUNNY! But you can bet someone probably will/has complained about having to spend $50 first!

My former CMC charged me $7 shipping on TWO TAPE RUNNER REFILLS... emphasis on FORMER CMC.....

and keep in mind that the discounted sets themselves count as the additional $30 you need to spend to get duplicate sets.... so if you buy two sets at the discounted price you already spent the additional $30 to get the second of any of the sets (like if you wanted 2 elementary essentials... buy the first one, and another discounted set, and you're already eligible to buy another elementary essentials just for buying the discounted sets...)

I hope that makes sense!

Unfortunately demos aren't allowed to sell to customers across country lines... that would be unethical and a direct violation of the agreement they signed when joining SU...

However, if she has a friend in the US who is not a demo and would place the order/ship to her, she can get around that rule....

NOT CONDONING< JUST SAYING....
