Default Warning re. Kaleidoscope!!!

I just wanted to pass on a warning to anyone who might shop at Kaleidoscope Cards & Crafts (http://kaleidoscopecardsandcrafts.com/index.html). I placed an order over a month ago and never heard back from the owner. I called her several times (leaving messages each time), e-mailed her over and over... and finally contacted Paypal to try to get a refund. They haven't been able to get anywhere either.... so it's pretty frustrating. I should learn not to order from companies that I'm unfamiliar with. :(

Did you report them to the Better Business Bureau? They will get in touch with them!

Paypal could only get $.17 from her. ??? Good idea about the BBB! I'll have to do that next, I guess. :(

The BBB is a good idea but unlikely to be of practical assistance to YOU. I suggest reporting it to the consumer protection office of the state in which the company is located.

How strange of Paypal. I thought they issue refund then decuct it from her account at Paypal, not her (so they don't need to find her) - I thought they had buyer protection?

This is good to know. Sorry for what happened to you :(

I've had to file a report several times with PayPal for not getting my stuff (different companies) and always got a full refund.

Truthfully, this is one of the reasons why I don't use Paypal. And never will again. It takes alot for me to order on-line these days due to a few bad experiences. But I did order from GinaK last weekend due to the good things I hears from my fellow SCSers. And it has been a positive order!
I hope you get your product or your money back. I hate companies that take their time to ship - some even a couple of months - or they will not refund you when you don't recieve your order. Companies like that should not be in business.
THANK YOU for letting all of us know to stay away from them! I really do appreciate it.
If you can use a credit card then it is much easier to do a chargeback so that is how I pay now when I order on-line the few times I actually do now.
Even if it is a Pre-Paid credit card, you can still do a chargeback.

Maybe she has no funds in her PayPal account and that is why they could only get her $.17. That would explain that.

This is what happened to me. Apparently Paypal can only recover funds if there's $ in the persons Paypal account :(

The BBB is basically the same thing as your talking about. Basically, just look them up online for that state, and they have an online form you complete and they will get back to you usually within 24 hours. I have had to do this before, and once the other party was contacted by them, they immediately got back to me and everything was resolved ASAP.

Since she actually has a business with a web page I think that this will get you somewhere. If nothing else she will have a police officer on her doorstep or they will call her. Her address is under the contact information.

Kim - you can dispute a charge with ANY credit card company. You might not get the money immediately, as the selling company has the right to counter your dispute, but the credit card company isn't supposed to charge interest on that charge until the dispute is resolved. I believe you need to notify the credit card company in writing that you are disputing the charge and why (and it needs to be a legitimate reason, like merchandise not received or a charge you didn't authorize) and you should also tell them what steps you've taken to try to remedy the situation. If you win the dispute, you get your money back.

I'm not sure this is what Tina means by a chargeback, but it results in the same thing.

That's the explanation Paypal gave me. They said that unless she refunds me fully, she will not be allowed to use her Paypal account.

Thanks for all of the advice. I filed with the BBB and the internet company that one of you suggested. Well see what happens.

I would file with better business bureau, if you have some paper copies to use as reference, I had to do it years ago, the company never refunded my money, but the BBB told me they have a complaint where they never responded even, they have a notation against them, and most companies don't want that. I would do a "google search" for the BBB in that state, they usually have an online form, it may get them moving

I'm so sorry to hear that this happened to you. This makes it bad for other Online Retailers who do good business and want customers to return.

File a Chargeback with your Credit Card company (if that is the method you used thru PayPal). Your Credit Card is your BEST protection for ONLINE shopping, even if it was processed thru Paypal.

Also, file a Consumer Complaint with the Attorney General's offc in the state that this business is located. (maybe someone else in this thread mentioned this too?)

Good Luck!!

...Man, I have my PP account set up directly through my checking account, don't like to use the credit card. Makes me wonder tho... I had a problem once with an Ebay purchase and PP said they couldn't refund me anything since she didn't keep any funds in her PP account. But, they are good with contacting her and Ebay with the complaints -kept me out of it. Worked out in the end, I got the items almost 3 months later!

Good luck, I hope this resolves itself successfully for you!
