Default What dies do you use with large stamps?

My husband recently bought me a Bigshot for my birthday. I'd like to use dies for some shaped layering with large stamps. I seem to have a lot of them, like Impression Obsession (Gary Roberston) and Northwoods.

I have Spellbinders' Lacy Squares and Fleur de Lis squares, but they are the wrong shape.

The two largest in the Lattice rectangles set are 2 x 3″ and 4⅛ x 5 which are not big enough.

Am I going about this the wrong way?
How do you use dies with your large stamps?

I think you just have to compromise with some shapes, allow more white space around the image or crop your image a bit to fit the dies. With some dies you can carefully patch two together to create a longer shape. I've only done it with a couple of the simpler shapers, but Beate has a fabulous example of what I'm talking about here: Flourishes March Release – Sneak Peek Day #3 fresh & fun
Or else you have to buy stamps that coordinate with your dies ;-).

For large images, one of my favorite dies is Nestabilities Labels 8. Here's an example: Chipmunk & Vinca 2 Card by Crafts

This chart from cardsbynikki comes in handy when figuring out sizes of the various dies: Nestabilities Sizing Chart by cardsbynikki at Splitcoaststampers

Your chipmunk card is stunning!!! I have labels eight and you're right, the largest size is big enough for many large stamps, but then I don't have a larger one to make a layer/frame behind it. How did you make that green layer behind it? It's just a tiny bit larger and looks terrific. That's exactly what I'd like to do.

I made a current inventory chart for Spellbinders to post on my blog. I was thinking last night I should go back and put the sizes in too. But that took sooooo long to do, argh! I'm not willing to do anything else to that list any time soon KWIM? lol

Thanks!

I wish there were easy answers for that extra layer. Mine was trimmed by hand. I've done it two ways. The first method is to cut the green layer with the die. Then cut the white layer with the same die, emboss it, and trim with scissors on the embossed line. The second way is to cut the white layer with the die, which allows you to also emboss it. Then trace the outer edge of the die in pencil on the green cardstock. Trim with scissors on the pencil line.

The second method turns out slightly larger than the first, and it's the way I'm doing most of them now. When trimming these shapes by hand, you can smooth any uneven spots on a sanding block. After you've done a couple of them, it gets easier and doesn't take too much time and effort. This process works for any Nestie die, although Labels 1 and 8 are some of the simplest.

This is another one of those slippery slopes. Once you start matting your die-cut image layers with a color, white layers without a mat will look unfinished to you. You'll end up having to do it on all of them. ;)

ETA: Here's an example of the second method, so that you can compare the results. It's done with Labels 1. Easter Lamb & Chick (detail) by Crafts - Cards and Paper Crafts at Splitcoaststampers

When layering my Labels Eight shapes I die cut the background layer, then die cut the inner layer and trim at the "embossed" indented part. Then the key for me, I distress it with my Heidi Swapp distresser, so it doesn't show any uneven cuts.

Regarding dies that are large enough for your large images, there are lots of Spellbinders Labels shapes. One of my favorite is the new Labels Twenty-Five the largest one is 6" long.

Distressing the edges IS a good idea!
