SU! Wheels

I was digging through old stamping things and my small and large wheels fell on the floor. It was like a trip down memory lane. I noticed the SU! doesn't carry wheels anymore. Can anyone tell me when that happened and why. I am sort of guessing they are reducing the number of products in the warehouse by the way they don't carry single markers and 12" x 12" card stock for every color. It seemed like there were more ribbon colors before too.

Funny, I just sold off all my SU wheels and accessories.

Like any company, Stampin' Up has a limited amount of warehouse space. If certain items don't sell enough, they stop carrying them. The wheels have been gone for a few years.

it was 2013 I think. Years go by too fast!

Unmount

I am seriously thinking of picking my favs out and pulling them off the wheels. There are a few I just really like, but I don't want them taking up all of the space.

I unounted all of the wheels I have left, and found them much easier to use as a border stamp.

I do still see them pop up occasionally at garage sales...

fionna51 04-21-2015 04:29 PM

I'm with Chris. I unmounted all my wheels.

muscrat 04-21-2015 05:22 PM

Unmounted wheels here too. I put them on cling foam, which is retiring.

pastglories 04-21-2015 06:40 PM

Wheeless here too.
So much easier to use as a flat stamp

I guess it will be a brave new world of border stamps! I think I have EZ mount from other unmounted rubber stamps I have. Storage will be the issue.

Illinois Marge 04-21-2015 07:27 PM

How do you get them off the wheel?

Each wheel has a seam. I just find the seam, gently start to pull up and it comes off super easy. There is remnants of a rubber cement like glue that just rolls up on itself and you are good to go.

If you're looking for a good way to store your newly-un-mounted wheels, they fit perfectly in the DVD cases that the cling-mount stamps come in... I cut laminated cardstock to fit and can put three layers in one case (I don't use any foam).

Thanks, I think I will give this a try. I haven't used my wheels as wheels, in maybe 5 years. Might find myself reaching for them more this way.

I unmounted mine also - much easier to use and no need for the ink cartridges. I use mine as bare rubber and stick on an acrylic block with double sided tape.

I un-mounted my wheels and a few of them I cut into individual stamps like the Jolly Jingles wheel. I use the individual stamps much more than I ever used the full set.

gregzgurl 04-22-2015 03:25 PM

I did that (cut the wheel apart) with Great Outdoors, Baby Time and I {Love} Love, too - lots of fun for a small outlay of $$

katiestamper 04-22-2015 03:30 PM

I'm having trouble choosing which ones I want to keep. I want them all!

gregzgurl 04-22-2015 07:57 PM

If you don't want to put anything on the back (foam or glue) and use them with double-stick tape or something when you're actually stamping, they stack really well in one of those long, narrow drawer organizers. I had mine like that for quite a while before I switched to my current method. And, no, they didn't warp or anything - just lay there patiently waiting for their turn... Go ahead and keep them all!

I'm so glad I opened this thread!. Yesterday I was packing up craft room for my move this weekend and debating what to do with the wheels. I pulled the stamps off the wheels and tossed the them and the handle. So freeing!

antiquestamper 04-23-2015 10:51 AM

Can anyone tell me what brand of block they are using with the unmounted wheels? None of the SU ones I own are long enough.

Arizona 04-23-2015 11:02 AM

I have one from The Stamps of Life that is the perfect size. It's 2x8 inches. You can only get it in a set with other blocks though.

I had a 2" x 12" one from my Close to My Heart days, but I went on the website and didn't see it, so maybe they don't make it any more. I've heard of people using one of the plates from their Big Shot or Cuttlebug to stamp oversized stamps. I use my Misti now, since I have one. The Fiskars stamp press works, too.

Where did you buy the Misti? Did you order it directly from Sweet Petunia?
I have seen videos and that product looks amazing to work with.

antiquestamper 04-24-2015 09:28 AM

Thanks for your suggestions, Sue and Arizona. I'm going to try using my Bigshot plate first. Hope it works so I can save some money (to spend on more stamps, of course!)

PikkuLilla 04-24-2015 12:47 PM

I have the Inkadinkado long clear block (2" x 7") and I love it - here's an example on ebay:

Yes - I have one of her original, etched-grid, hand-made ones. I adore this thing - worth every penny, for sure!

Takinmytyme 04-24-2015 07:11 PM

If you take the stamp off the wheel what are the measurements of the Regular Wheel? Jumbo Wheels?

Takinmytyme 04-24-2015 07:12 PM

What is a Misti?

Gail M Tinney 04-25-2015 02:08 AM

Thanks Sue...I am getting one!

cobby 04-25-2015 06:17 AM

Unmounted my wheels too! I have about 12 regular ones and 3 jumbos. All are bare rubber and I store them all in one of the larger clam shell cases all the wood stamps used to come in from SU. I just lay them on top of each other, use a little double stick tape to put them on a block then rub the tape off the back with my finger when I'm done so it doesn't transfer to the top of another one in storage.
I can't remember where I got my block for them. I know I had to order it online because none of the big box craft stores had one, and I wanted it wide enough and long enough for the jumbos I unmounted. But a cutting plate from my Bigshot works too!
To figure out the size before you unmount just wrap a measuring tape around the wheel. (My craft stuff is in my bedroom which I can't get to right now as my hubby is sleeping..or I'd give you the measurements).

Ifyou mean the stamp and not the actual wheel - because I never had a jumbo one, and my regular one has bubble wrap wrapped round it for backgrounds :D, the actual unmounted stamps measure as follows.
Jumbo : 6 7/8" x 2 1/4".
Regular: 6 7/8" x 1 1/4"
